PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown men's tennis team was defeated by Penn, 4-2, on Sunday at the Brown Varsity Tennis Courts.
"They say that "iron sharpens iron," if that is true, and I believe it is, then we have a group of men that will be ready to go next year," said head coach Tim Gray. "We just haven't been in the position to win in the last few years. This year we were in position to win every Ivy League match. We are going to build on these experiences and have our swords ready for next year's campaign. I want to give a special "thank you" to our seniors, Charles Tan and Sam Hearst. They've been great leaders!"
The Quakers won the doubles point with a 6-1 victory in the second spot and a 6-3 win in first doubles.
Penn increased its lead to 2-0 by opening the singles round with a win in the top spot. Brown got on the board when sophomore Ching Lam (Sai Kung, Hong Kong) registered a 6-3, 6-1 victory in the second position. The Quakers followed by taking fourth singles for a 3-1 advantage. Junior Jacob Walker (Bethesda, Md.) pulled the Bears within one (3-2) with a 7-5, 7-6 (6) victory in third singles but Penn would win sixth singles to put the match out of reach.
