
Mercado Selected as Assistant Coach for USA Water Polo at World University Games

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University men's and women's water polo head coach Felix Mercado has earned selection as an assistant coach with USA Women's Water Polo for the 2019 World University Games, USA Water Polo announced on Monday.

Team USA will compete at the 30th Summer World University Games from July 3-14, 2019 in Naples, Italy with University of the Pacific head coach James Graham serving as the head coach for the women's team. Rosters will be announced at a later date with athletes representing the USA Water Polo Senior National 'B' Teams. The USA women's roster will be selected through evaluations of the current NCAA women's water polo season and Junior National Team training.

Now in his 12th year serving as the leader of the Bears' men's and women's water polo programs, Mercado has coached 39 all-conference performers and 16 All-Americans between the two programs. He has earned eight Coach of the Year awards and amassed 470 victories with the Bears.

The World University Games are an international multi-sport event organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The World University Games are staged every two years in a different city around the world, representing both winter and summer competitions and is second in importance only to the Olympic Games.
