Equestrian Places Second at URI Show in Regular Season Finale

GALES FERRY, Conn. – Brown University equestrian totaled four blue ribbons to place second as a team at the University of Rhode Island IHSA Show on Saturday at the Mystic Valley Hunt Club.

In their regular season finale, the Bears captured second place in the final Zone 1 Region 1 standings. Brown finished in the top three of eight of its nine shows on the year.

Brown's four first-place finishers included, senior Katrina Heilbroner (New York, N.Y.) in intermediate fences, senior Wallace Douglas (Ipswich, Mass.) in novice flat, freshman Claire Hodges (Washington, D.C.) in novice flat, and freshman Maya Taylor (Albuquerque, N.M.) in walk-trot.

Sophomore Hannah Woolley (Medfield, Mass.) competed in open fences and open flat, placing second in open flat. Heilbroner and freshman Clara Louvet (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) both showed in intermediate fences and intermediate flat with Louvet earning second in intermediate fences.

Junior Renee Seto (Barrington, R.I.) took part in both intermediate flat and novice fences, placing fourth in both divisions. Brown's other novice fences competitors included, Hodges, Douglas, freshman Elena Newman (Gainesville, Fla.), and senior Yinan Liu (Shanghai, China), who made her debut in the division.

Liu, Douglas, Newman, Hodges, and freshman Siena Capone (Birmingham, Mich.) all showed in novice flat with Douglas and Hodges pacing the Bears with their first-place efforts.

In walk-trot-canter, junior Leah Peipert (St. Louis, Mo.) led the way with a second-place finish in her division debut while junior Lauren Raynor (Chappaqua, N.Y.) placed fifth. Junior Rebecca Lee (Guilford, Conn.) and sophomore Simone Zhao (Beijing, China) also both showed in the division.

Taylor and freshman Elise Solazzo (Hoover, Ala.) represented the Bears in walk-trot.

Next, Brown will begin its postseason at the Zone 1 Region 1 Regionals on Saturday, Mar. 23 at Nora Harris Equestrian in Tiverton, R.I.
