Boca Raton, Fla. - Brown's women's golf team opened its spring season at the Florida Atlantic University Winter Warm-up and placed fourth with a 36-hole 611 on rounds of 308-300 at the par 72, 6062 yard Osprey Point Golf Club.
37th-ranked Tennessee ran away with the team championship with a two-day 559 (276-283) to claim the team title by 41 shots. Florida Atlantic placed second (600), followed by Oakland University (608), Brown (611), Columbia (620), Dartmouth (622) and Detroit Mercy (642).
"Coming out of the tough winter months and not being able to practice on grass before this event, the team was up to the challenge and handled it in stride," said head coach Danielle Griffiths. "We were led by two top 10 finishes from sophomore Brittany Park and freshman Pinya Pipatjarasgit. We accomplished our goals on the final round and we are very pleased with the start of the spring season."
Sophomore Brittany Park and freshman Pinya Pipatjarasgit both paced the Bears and placed 9thindividually with a 36-hole 150. Park shot 75-75, while Pipatjarasgit carded 76-74.
Senior Elizabeth Doykan and freshman Hailey Freedman were close behind at 156, with Doykan shooting 78-78—156 and Freedman carding 77-79—156.
Sophomore Winnie McCabe carded 83-74—157 and freshman Roshannah Gaur came in at 159 on rounds of 82-77. Junior Madeleine Garay also competed, shooting 83-81—164.
The Bears are idle until March 16-17, competing in the Low Country Invitational at the Moss Creek Country Club in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
