Throughout the month of February, Brown Athletics will celebrate Black History Month through the "28 Days of Black at Brown" series. Each day during the month, the Bears will recognize African Americans who have made an impact on the university community and beyond.

Gary Nelson '94, Men's Lacrosse

A standout midfielder for the Bears, Gary Nelson '94 helped Brown win two Ivy League titles and make three appearances in the NCAA tournament during his time on College Hill. As a senior he earned First Team All-Ivy honors, played in the North-South All-Star Game, and won the team's Charlie Kenney '10 Alumni Award given for sportsmanship, performance, and influence. In 1994, he tallied a team-high 120 ground balls and posted 29 points on 14 goals and 15 assists as the Bears made a run to the NCAA national semifinals. Over his four years he played in 60 of a possible 61 games and helped the Bears post a 48-13 overall record and 21-3 Ivy League mark, winning Ivy titles in 1991 and 1994. He is a member of Brown's 1991 Brown Athletic Hall of Fame team that posted a 13-0 record in the regular season, marking the first undefeated regular season in program history.
