28 Days of Black at Brown: Day 11: Lauren Gibbs '06, Volleyball

Throughout the month of February, Brown Athletics will celebrate Black History Month through the "28 Days of Black at Brown" series. Each day during the month, the Bears will recognize African Americans who have made an impact on the university community and beyond.

Lauren Gibbs '06, Volleyball

A two-time All-Ivy selection for the Bears in volleyball, Lauren Gibbs '06 switched sports after graduating from Brown, winning an Olympic silver medal in women's bobsled at the 2018 Olympic Games in PyeongChang, becoming Brown's first female medalist at the winter Olympics outside of the sport of women's ice hockey. A team captain for the Bears as a senior, Gibbs earned Second Team All-Ivy honors in 2004 and 2005 and ranks fourth all-time at Brown with 1,090 career kills. The Los Angeles, Calif., native started for the Bears for three seasons and gained Academic All-Ivy accolades as a senior. Making her Olympic debut in 2018, Gibbs became Brown's ninth winter Olympic medalist.
