KINGSTON, R.I. – Rookie Lily Dumas (Holden, Mass.) of the Brown women's track & field team won the 25th annual URI Pentathlon in her first-ever collegiate competition on Wednesday at Mackal Fieldhouse.
Dumas racked up 3,292 total points to claim first place in the pentathlon, edging Bosibori Mosongo of New Hampshire by 92 points, in an event that consisted of seven participants from Brown, UNH, URI and Holy Cross.
"For a first-year athlete to win her first college pentathlon is very exciting," said head coach Tim Springfield. "There's a big learning curve with the multis, so starting right out the gate at almost 3,300 points bodes very well for the future. If I remember correctly, Carly Paul's first pentathlon was very similar."
Dumas won the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.95 and also added a top-three finish in the shot put, high jump and long jump events.
Brown track & field will host the Alden Invitational this Saturday (12/7) at the Olney-Margolies Athletic Center (OMAC).
