NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Mark Winhoffer and Enzo Okpoye both scored for Yale as the Brown men's soccer team fell on the road, 2-0, in Saturday's Ivy League contest at Reese Stadium.
Brown moved to 3-9-4, 1-2-3 in the league. Yale improved to 12-2-2 overall and secured the league championship with a 5-1 record.
"Total physical contest tonight," said head coach Patrick Laughlin. "We knew going in that it would be an intense environment. We were able to create some good opportunities but not able to get enough of them on frame. We will regroup and prepare for our final home game."
Max Waldau (Fort Myers, Fla.) finished with three saves in net for the Bears, while Elian Haddock stopped a pair of shots on the other side to pick up the win.
Winhoffer gave the Bulldogs an early lead when he scored in the 11th minute for this second goal of the season. The two teams combined for just six shots, and one on target, in the opening 45 minutes of action.
Brown came out strong to start the second half, as Matthew Chow (Vancouver, British Columbia) and Derek Waleffe (Madison, Wis.) both put shots on net within the first five minutes, but Haddock stopped both bids to preserve the lead.
Okpoye made it a two-goal game at 74:58 when he kicked home a rebound after Ryan Matteo had his initial shot ring off the post. Brown scattered a trio of shots to close out regulation, but could not find the back of the net, as the home side held on for the shutout.
Yale outshot the Bears, 15-9. Daniel Schiller (Glenview, Ill.) led the Brown lineup with three shots.
Brown will host Dartmouth next Saturday afternoon for Senior Day at 4 PM.
