
Volleyball’s Miller Wins Ivy League Rookie of the Year, Leads All-Ivy Trio

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University volleyball freshman outside hitter Sophia Miller has earned Ivy League Rookie of the Year honors unanimously in addition to First Team All-Ivy while junior Eliza Grover and freshman Kaitlyn Wong both gained Honorable Mention All-Ivy, the Ivy League conference office announced on Thursday.
A native of Dallas, Texas, Miller becomes the Bears' fourth Ivy League Rookie of the Year selection in program history and first winner of the award since Corre Myer in 1998. Miller stands as Brown's first selection for First Team All-Ivy since Thea Derrough in 2013.
In Ivy League play, Miller ranked second in the conference in kills per set (4.16), second in points per set (4.47), and eighth in digs per set (3.30), while posting six double-doubles and 10 double-figure kill performances. Overall, she stood second in kills per set (3.42), third in points per set (3.75), and 10th in digs per set (2.94), while totaling seven double-doubles and 11 double-figure kill efforts.
A native of Menlo Park, Calif., Grover earned Honorable Mention All-Ivy accolades for the second straight year. In Ivy play, she ranked seventh in the league in hitting percentage (.342) while averaging 2.49 kills per set. Overall, she stood ninth in hitting percentage (.304) and notched 2.33 kills per set. For the season, she posted double-figure kills nine times, including five times in conference play.
A native of Los Altos, Calif., Wong ranked third in the league in digs per set (4.19) in conference play and fifth in digs per set (3.84) overall. For the year, she posted double-figure digs 15 times, including 11 times in conference competition.
Brown concluded the 2019 season with its most wins (13) and first winning campaign (13-10) since 2001. The Bears came in fourth place in the Ivy standings, finishing in the top half of the league for the first time since 2014.
