Women’s Rugby Faces West Chester at NIRA Tier II Championship

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's rugby team will play West Chester in the NIRA Tier II Championship on Sunday, Nov. 17 at Mignon Field on Harvard's campus starting at 12:00 p.m.

REGULAR SEASON RECAP
The Bears finished the regular season with a 5-3 record, going 5-1 in Tier II play. Brown put together a three-match win streak during the year, with victories over AIC (54-19, Sept. 21), Sacred Heart (29-17, Sept. 28) and Mount St. Mary's (49-7, Oct. 12).
SEMIFINAL MATCHUP
Brown defeated Queens, 23-15, on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Marvel Field in the NIRA Tier II Semifinals. The Bears received their scores from junior Lexi Nelson (Foxboro, Mass.), senior Abby O'Keefe (St. Louis, Mo.), freshman Mahdia Parker (Harlem, N.Y.) and freshman Kate Molloy (Sudbury, Mass.) while junior Olivia Duba (San Ramon, Calif.) converted a penalty kick. Brown trailed at halftime (15-13) but held the Royals scoreless in the second frame while Parker and Molloy added tries in the stanza for the victory.
THIS SEASON VS. WEST CHESTER
The Bears were edged by the Rams, 25-14, in the regular season meeting between the two teams on Sept. 7 in West Chester, Pa. Junior Karina Wang (Ottawa, Ontario) led the Bears in scoring in the contest, recording two tries while senior Abby O'Keefe (St. Louis, Mo.) added two conversion kicks.
TIER II STANDINGS
Brown finished second in the Tier II Division with a 5-1 record in divisional play. West Chester grabbed the top spot with a perfect 6-0 mark while Queens concluded the year with a 4-2 record for third. Mount St. Mary's rounded out the top four, posting a 3-3 record.
