Women’s Crew Takes Second Place at Princeton Chase in Fall Finale

PRINCETON, N.J. – Brown University women's crew placed second in the women's varsity open eight event at the 2019 Princeton 3-Mile Chase in its fall finale on Sunday morning on Carnegie Lake.
"All five of our boats raced hard today," Brown head coach John Murphy said. "While there is work to be done in the months ahead, we firmly believe that this team has the drive and the discipline to do everything required."
The Bears have now earned either gold or silver at the event in each of the last six years. Brown won the race in both 2014 and 2016 with second-place finishes in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2019.
Brown's A boat (bow 57) placed second out of a field of 47 entries with a time of 14:51.658. The Bears topped third-place Virginia (14:58.948) by over seven seconds and fell to first-place Princeton (14:37.568) by just over 14 seconds.
The Bears' B entry (bow 71) came in seventh place behind a time of 15:20.411 as the crew defeated Rutgers' A boat (15:24.861) by over four seconds. The boat trailed sixth-place Virginia B (15:17.498) by less than three seconds as well as fourth-place Princeton B (15:05.177).
Brown's A and B entries both topped A boats from Rutgers, UCF, Drexel, George Washington, Rhode Island, Cornell, and North Carolina.
The program's C boat (bow 84) finished in 11th place with a time of 15:28.118, besting Princeton's C entry (15:29.815) by 1.697 seconds. The crew topped A entries from Drexel, GW, URI, Cornell, and UNC.
Brown's D boat (bow 94) came in 22nd place behind a time of 16:17.703, edging UCF's B entry (16:21.608) by just under four seconds and UNC's A boat (16:22.148) by just under five seconds.
The Bears' E entry (bow 100) placed 40th behind a time of 17:14.455, beating Cornell's D boat (17:20.293) by just under six seconds.
Next, Brown will resume racing in the spring of 2019.
