Women’s Crew Captures Silver Medal in Championship Four at Head of the Charles

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Brown University women's crew captured a silver medal in the women's championship four event and added a seventh-place finish in the women's championship eight race to complete its racing at the 55th Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday afternoon on the Charles River.
"This was a good way to start our season," Brown head coach John Murphy said. "Everyone has been working very hard this fall, and we are looking forward to seeing how we can pick up speed throughout the rest of the year."
Brown captured a silver medal in the women's championship four (event 57) out of a field of 15 entries as the Bears' boat (bow 4) crossed the finish in a time of 17:35.721. Brown trailed only first-place Washington (17:33.168) by 2.553 seconds while besting third-place Stanford (17:46.662) by 10.941 seconds.
The Bears' boat (bow 8) in the women's championship eight race (event 62) clocked in with a time of 15:44.607 for seventh place overall and fifth place among collegiate entries out of a field of 32 crews. Brown topped eighth-place Radcliffe (15:47.198) by 2.591 seconds and fell to sixth-place Virginia (15:37.213) by 7.394 seconds.
On Saturday, the Bears' boats representing the Friends of Brown Women's Crew placed sixth and 19th out of 44 entries in the women's alumnae eight race while USRowing team member Cicely Madden '18 came in fourth in the women's championship single race.
Brown embarked on its 2019-20 competitive racing season on Sunday, coming off a 2018-19 season that saw the Bears qualify for the NCAA Championships for the 23rd straight year and post their 22nd top-10 finish at the championships. Brown remains one of three programs to have competed in all 23 NCAA Championships since the event's inception.
Next, Brown concludes its fall racing season at the Princeton Chase on Sunday, Oct. 27 in Princeton, N.J.
