Women’s Crew Opens Racing at Head of the Charles with Alumnae Boats

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Brown University women's rowing opened racing at the 55th Head of the Charles Regatta behind competition from alumnae boats with a sixth-place finish in the women's alumnae eight race highlighting the action on Saturday afternoon at the Charles River.
Representing the Friends of Brown Women's Crew, the Bears fielded two alumnae boats in the women's alumnae eight race (event 24), posting sixth and 19th-place finishes out of 44 entries.
Brown's A boat (bow 7) tooke sixth place behind a time of 17:25.154, trailing a fifth-place Washington alumnae boat (17:21.633) by under four seconds and topping a seventh-place Toronto alumnae boat (17:35.508) by over 10 seconds.
The Bears' B entry (bow 34) came in 19th place with a time of 18:32.314, falling to an 18th-place University of Rhode Island alumnae boat (18:30.605) by less than two seconds and besting a 20th-place boat out of BMA (18:36.425) by over four seconds.
Also representing Brown, USRowing team member Cicely Madden '18 (bow 3) took fourth place in the women's championship single (event 37) behind a time of 19:01.440. In a field of 23 entries, she came just 0.744 seconds out of third place. Madden finished in third at the event in 2018.
Brown continues competition at the Head of the Charles tomorrow – Sunday, Oct. 20 – with the women's championship four (1:57 p.m.) and women's championship eight (2:49 p.m.).
