PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University athletics recorded a 98-pecent Graduation Success Rate (GSR) in the latest report released by the NCAA on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Brown and the Ivy League once again lead the nation in GSR with a combined average over 98% across its eight institutions for student-athletes who began college in 2012.
All of the Ivy League institutions had a score of 96 or higher, the only conference to accomplish the feat. Since the NCAA began including the Ivy League in its GSR data collection in 2010-11, the League has finished first among the Division I conferences all nine years.
"Our student-athletes continue to be among the national leaders in graduation success rate," said Brown Athletic Director Jack Hayes. "Brown student-athletes embody the core values of the University and the Ivy League while performing at the highest level in both competition and academics."
Twenty Brown programs had a perfect GSR: baseball, men's basketball, men's cross country/track, men's fencing, men's golf, men's lacrosse, men' soccer, men's swimming & diving, men's tennis, men's water polo, women's basketball, women's fencing, field hockey, women's golf, gymnastics, women's hockey, skiing, women's soccer, softball, and volleyball.
"College athletes continue to meet and exceed the benchmarks set for academic achievement," NCAA President Mark Emmert said. "They have surpassed the original goal by nearly 10 percentage points, a phenomenal achievement that highlights the commitment these students have to succeed in all areas of life."
The Graduation Rates Institution Report gives graduation information about the most recent six-year graduating class of students and student-athletes who entered as freshmen in 2012-13. The graduation rate (percent) is based on a comparison of the number (N) of students who entered a college or university and the number of those who graduated within six years.
