
Stillwell Paces Volleyball to 3-1 Victory over Bucknell at Hartford Invite

Stillwell, Jacobs Earn All-Tournament Team Honors
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior Sabrina Stillwell tallied a double-dobule on 22 kills and 14 digs to lead Brown University volleyball to a 3-1 (25-23, 25-16, 21-25, 25-16) victory over Bucknell University on Sunday morning in the Hartford Volleyball Gymnasium.
The Bears (4-2) closed out the Hartford Invitational with a 2-1 record following their victory over the Bison (5-4), taking a 2-0 set lead against Bucknell before closing the match with a win in set four.
An All-Tournament Team selection, Stillwell (Laguna Beach, Calif.) posted 20 or more kills in all three matches on the weekend and now has four double-doubles on the season. For the tournament, Stillwell registered 68 kills (5.23 per set) and 35 digs (2.69 per set).
Sophomores Gabrielle Moriconi (Naples, Fla.) and Eliza Grover (Menlo Park, Calif.) notched 11 kills and 10 kills respectively. Junior Jacqueline Jacobs (Atlanta, Ga.) – Brown's other All-Tournament Team honoree – totaled seven kills and four blocks.
Freshman setter Kristin Sellers (Menlo Park, Calif.) distributed a match-high 45 assists and finished the tournament with 155 assists (11.92 per set). Senior Elisa Merten (Woodside, Calif.), junior Makena Ehlert (Orange County, Calif.), and freshman libero Paris Winkler (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) notched 14, 14, and 11 digs apiece.
Brown opened the match with a 25-23 win in set one behind four kills from Stillwell and seven digs from Winkler. Leading 13-12, the Bears used a 4-0 run to extend their lead to 17-12. The Bison pulled within 24-23 late in the set before Brown won the frame's final point.
The Bears gave themselves a 2-0 set advantage with a 25-16 victory in set two. Brown took a 15-9 lead midway through the stanza and did not allow the Bison to come any closer than five points the rest of the way. Stillwell tallied seven kills on .600 hitting and five digs in the period.
The Bison stayed alive in the match with a 25-21 win in set three. With the score tied at 17-17, Bucknell closed the frame on an 8-4 stretch. Stillwell added six kills in the frame while Sellers dished out 14 assists.
Brown captured the contest with a 25-16 triumph in set four, hitting .444 in the stanza. The Bears gained a 12-4 edge early in the period and took a lead as large as 12 points on their way to the win. Stillwell chalked up five more kills in the final frame.
For Bucknell, Blake Bucholz landed 11 kills, Alexa Bonanno handed out 30 assists, and Sophie Bullard came up with a match-high 15 digs.
Next, Brown competes at the Stetson Invitational, facing Chicago State (Sept. 14, 11:00 a.m.), Stetson (Sept. 14, 6:00 p.m.), and Bethune-Cookman (Sept. 15, 2:30 p.m.).
