
Men's Crew Tops Harvard to Claim Stein Cup

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown men's crew picked up a pair of victories over Harvard, including in the varsity eight to take back the Stein Cup, as the two Ivy League rivals battled on the Seekonk River Saturday afternoon.
Brown picked up a hard-fought victory in the varsity eight, the final race of the day during slack tide, as the Bears held off the Crimson down the stretch to win in a time of 5:28.1. Harvard crossed less than two seconds later at 5:29.9. Brown captured the Stein Cup for the first time since 2010 and moves to 2-1 in head-to-head competition this season.
The Bears also earned a victory in the first race of the day in the fifth varsity event, crossing in a winning time of 6:25.6. Brown led by one length with about 350 remaining before the Crimson hit a channel marker and eventually crossed at 6:39.7.
Harvard edged the Bears in the second varsity, winning in a time of 5:52.3 before the Bears finished at 5:54.1. The Crimson also picked up a pair of wins in the third and fourth varsity races, winning at 5:54.5 and 6:09.2, respectively.
Brown will head to Northeastern next Saturday as the two crews meet for the Dreissigacker Cup. The first race will start at 7:30 AM.
