
Women's Tennis Falls to Columbia, 5-2

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Brown women's tennis team was defeated by Columbia, 5-2, on Saturday at Dick Savitt Tennis Center. The Bears won the doubles point but the Lions would claim five of the six singles matches.
Junior Katie Ta (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and freshman Semi Oloko (Canton, Mass.) picked up the first win of the day with a 6-4 showing in third doubles. Senior Alyza Benotto (Los Angeles, Calif.) and sophomore Devon Jack (San Marino, Calif.) then followed with a 6-4 win in the second spot to give Brown the point.
Columbia gained the first win in the singles round in the fifth position. Senior Maddie Stearns (Short Hills, N.J.) gave the Bears a 2-1 match advantage with a 6-4, 6-3 win in first singles but the Lions would win in sixth, fourth, second and third to take the match.
Stearns' singles win on the day moves her into 10th place at Brown in career wins with 63, tying Alex Arlak '05, while Benotto's win in doubles gave her 78 in a Bear uniform, fourth best at College Hill.
The Bears wrap up the regular season at Cornell tomorrow (April 22) for a 1:00 p.m. match at the Reis Tennis Center.
