Women's Crew Wins 2V8 in Spring Opener at Princeton with Michigan

PRINCETON, N.J. – Brown University women's crew won the second varsity eight in its spring season opener at Princeton University with the University of Michigan on Saturday morning at Lake Carnegie.
In a series of races that featured three programs ranked in the top 10 in the final rankings of the 2017 season, the Bears placed first in the second varsity eight, second in the A varsity four, and third in the first varsity eight in the NCAA events.
The Bears clocked in with a time of 7:11.1 in the second varsity eight, topping Princeton (7:14.2) by 3.1 seconds and Michigan (7:16.8) by 5.7 seconds.
In the first varsity eight, Princeton won the race with a time of 6:55.5 while Michigan took second with a time of 7:00.9. The Bears (7:03.3) trailed the Wolverines by 2.4 seconds.
Rounding out the NCAA events, the Bears placed second in the A varsity four behind a time of 7:50.8. Brown trailed Michigan (7:49.5) by 1.3 seconds and defeated Princeton (7:55.8) by 5.0 seconds.
The Bears' earned a victory in the third varsity eight, edging Princeton by 9.3 seconds, 7:39.2 to 7:48.5. Brown's fourth varsity eight came in 2.8 seconds behind Princeton with a time of 7:51.3.
In the B varsity four, the Bears' came in second with a time of 8:00.5, trailing Princeton (7:54.2) by 6.3 seconds. Princeton's C varsity four finished with a time of 9:03.4.
Princeton retained the Class of 1987 Trophy as Brown fell to 12-19 all-time in the cup.
Next, Brown races at Radcliffe on the Charles River on Saturday, Mar. 31.
