Men's Tennis Picks Up Wins Over UConn and St. John's

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown men's tennis team defeated both UConn and St. John's at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Sunday to improve to 13-4 on the season.
The Bears swept past UConn in the first match of the day, defeating the Huskies 7-0. Freshman Ching Lam (Sai Kung, Hong Kong) and senior Aaron Sandberg (Hudson, Ohio) opened the morning with a 6-0 win in second singles. Freshmen Ben Collier (Darien, Conn.) and Teddy van Eck (Rye, N.Y.) followed in the third spot to take the point, also winning 6-0.
Brown continued to dominated and took victories in all six singles matches. Lam won his first singles match with a clean score of 6-0, 6-0. Junior Charles Tan (Austin, Texas) (6-3, 6-3, second), sophomore Peter Litsky (St. Petersburg, Fla.) (6-3, 6-4, fourth) and senior Anthony Arocho (Norridge, Ill.) (6-2, 6-0, fifth) all won their matches in two sets.
The Bears also took match two of the day against St. John's, 4-3. Brown won the doubles point with wins in second and third. Senior Jack Haworth (Corby, England) and sophomore Jacob Walker (Bethesda, Md.) posted a 6-4 win in second doubles but St. John's countered with a win in first doubles to tie the round. Lam and Sandberg next won the point for Brown with a 6-4 showing in the third spot.
St. John's evened the match with a win in second singles and the Bears regained a 2-1 lead when Tan won his fourth singles match, 6-1, 7-6 (3). The Red Storm were able to take a 3-2 lead when they claimed victories in third and first singles. Brown responded by closing out the match with two-straight wins, the first coming from Sandberg in the fifth spot, 6-4, 6-3, and the final from Litsky, 7-6 (1), 6-1, in sixth singles.
The Bears next travel to California and will play at San Francisco on Wednesday, March 28 for a 2:00 p.m. ET match and UC Davis on Saturday, March 31 for a 3:00 p.m. match.
