
Men's Tennis Falls to Harvard, 4-1, on First Day of ECAC Championship

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Brown men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season in a 4-1 defeat to Harvard on day one of the ECAC Championship on Friday at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.
The seventh-seeded Bears took the doubles point from the second-seeded Crimson for a 1-0 advantage in the match. Harvard took the first match but Brown responded with wins in second and third doubles to take a 1-0 match advantage. Senior Jack Haworth (Corby, England) and sophomore Jacob Walker (Bethesda, Md.) teamed up for a 6-3 win in second doubles while junior Charles Tan (Austin, Texas) and freshman Ben Collier (Darien, Conn.) also won 6-3 in the third spot.
Harvard was able to win the match with victories in first, sixth, second and fifth singles. Walker squared off against No. 115 Andy Zhou in second singles and fought but was edged in the first match 7-6 and later fell in the second, 6-1.
The Bears next face the loser from the Cornell/Penn match tomorrow (Feb. 17) at 3:00 p.m. on day two of the ECAC Championship at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.
