PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Makena Ehlert posted her fourth double-double of the season on a season-high 16 kills and 14 digs to lead Brown University volleyball to a 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-12, 25-15) victory over the University of Pennsylvania on Friday night at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

The Bears (9-10, 2-7 Ivy) rallied from a 1-0 set deficit, taking the next three frames, while hitting .370 in set three and .382 in set four, as they upended the visiting Quakers (5-15, 2-7 Ivy).

"We were really efficient with our attacking all the way around," Brown head coach Ahen Kim said. "Makena did a great job. She hit .227 on a lot of swings as an outside hitter. Our middles combined for 10 kills with no errors. Eliza Grover did a great job – eight kills on 21 swings. When we were efficient from multiple attackers it made it easier for us to keep siding out and put balls away."

Brown totaled 14 blocks as a team and swept the season series from Penn as the Bears topped the Quakers, 3-2, on Sept. 29.

"Makena and Eliza as well as Kristin Sellers and Paris Winkler – they're staying steady gave Elisa Merten, who played outside for the first time for us this season, a chance to step up," Kim said. "With all of our mainstays stepping up, it gave Emma Chow, who was setting opposite Kristin, and Olivia Dukat, who was playing on the right side as a freshman, a lot of room to settle into the match."

Ehlert (Orange County, Calif.) posted her third double-double in her last four matches while senior Elisa Merten (Woodside, Calif.) posted a season-high nine kills alongside eight digs. Junior Jacqueline Jacobs (Atlanta, Ga.) led all players with nine blocks and tacked on four kills on .308 hitting.

Sophomore Eliza Grover (Menlo Park, Calif.) landed eight kills on .333 hitting, while chipping in five blocks and five digs. Sophomore Tylin Stiller (Evergreen, Colo.) notched six kills on .462 hitting, and freshman Olivia Dukat (Roswell, Ga.) recorded a season-best seven kills.

Freshman libero Paris Winkler (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) finished with a season-high 22 digs for her second match of 20 or more digs this year. Freshman Kristin Sellers (Menlo Park, Calif.) contributed 26 assists and nine digs, and sophomore Emma Chow (Boulder, Colo.) added 18 assists.

Brown and Penn remained tied at 19-19 late in set one before the visitors used a 6-2 run to close the frame with a 25-21 set win. Winkler notched six digs in the period.

The Bears responded with a 25-22 win in set two, never trailing in the stanza. Brown pulled ahead 20-14 before Penn scored four straight points to come within 20-18. The hosts responded with a 3-1 spurt and won the set's final two points to hold off another Penn rally. Brown compiled six team blocks in the frame.

Brown took a 2-1 set lead behind a 25-12 victory in set three. The Bears opened the set with an 8-2 lead and later in the frame captured a 21-11 edge behind a 5-0 burst. The Bears closed the frame on a 9-1 run. Ehlert paced the hosts with five kills on .417 hitting in the set.

Ehlert chalked up another six kills in set four as the Bears took the match behind a 25-15 win in the set. Brown claimed a 12-6 advantage early in the frame and widened its edge to 24-11 before closing out the victory.

For Penn, Parker Jones posted a match-high 18 kills, Grace James distributed a match-best 36 assists, and Caroline Furrer came up with 21 digs.

Next, Brown hosts Princeton University tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 27, at 5:00 p.m. (ESPN+).
