
Brown Athletics to Induct Hall of Fame Class of 2018

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University will induct 18 individuals and one team into the Brown Athletic Hall of Fame at the 42nd Induction Dinner on Saturday, October 20 at the Rhode Island Convention Center.
The Hall of Famers will also be recognized during Saturday's football game against Cornell, which kicks off at 1 PM.

Deborah Dryer Vo '06, Women's Crew
A two-time NCAA champion, three-time NCAA medalist, and a four-time Eastern Sprints medalist, Deborah Dryer Vo '06 helped Brown women's crew finish as a top-three team at the NCAA Championships in all four of her seasons, including winning a national team title in 2004. Sitting in the stroke seat for the majority of her races with the Bears, Vo reached the pinnacle of NCAA rowing success in 2004 when she won gold in the first varsity eight and as a team at the NCAA Championships.
Nicholas J. Hartigan '06, Football
The heart and soul of the 2005 Ivy championship team, Hartigan is Brown's all-time leading rusher with 4,492 yards, third best in Ivy League history. The unanimous selection for the 2005 Ivy League Player of the Year, Hartigan earned the Harry Agganis/Harold Zimman Award as the outstanding football player in New England, and was named the ECAC Division I FCS Player of the Year. A top three finalist for the Walter Payton Award as the nation's top player, Hartigan was a First Team All-American by the Sports Network, Walter Camp, AP, and the AFCA.
Elizabeth Daniels Grossman '04, Women's Swimming & Diving
Liz Daniels Grossman '04 was a 10-time Ivy League Champion for the Brown women's swimming & diving program, compiling six individual titles. As a senior, Grossman was named Ivy League Swimmer of the Meet after capturing the 50 and 100 freestyle titles. She qualified for the NCAA Championships twice in her career and received NCAA Honorable Mention All-America honors in three events over two years. Following her Brown career, Grossman competed in the Olympic Trials in 2004 for the 50 and 100 freestyle.
Alaivaa A. Nuualiitia '03, Men's Basketball
A First Team All-Ivy selection as a senior, the 6-7 Nuualiitia played a major role in the success of a Brown team that earned an NIT berth after posting a school best 12-2 Ivy League record in 2003, while winning a school-record 17 games. Nuualiitia completed his storied career ranked in the top 10 in seven career statistical categories and four single-season rankings. When his hardwood career ended, his 1,344 career points ranked third in Brown basketball history, while he ranked first in blocked shots (119). He was also fifth in field goal percentage (.557), free throws made (362) and steals (123), and was seventh in rebounds (710) and field goals made (486).
Amanda L. Forte '02 – Equestrian
The most decorated student-athlete in the history of Brown equestrian and one of the most successful riders in the history of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association, Amanda Forte '02 won the 2001 Cacchione Cup as the national individual hunter seat high-point rider. Forte became the first person in the history of the sport to win every individual competition at the IHSA National Championships and then come back and win both flat and fences as an alumna.
Cory D. Gibbs '01, Men's Soccer
A two-time All-American, Cory Gibbs '01 attained a decorated playing career on the collegiate, professional and international level, while adding to the storied history of Brown men's soccer during his time in Providence. Gibbs was a four-year standout defender for the Bears from 1997 to 2000, and during that time, he guided the team to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including the Elite Eight as a senior. Brown dominated the Ivy League during that span, and as Gibbs anchored the backline, the Bears captured three league titles with a combined record of 22-3-3.
Jeffrey D. Lawler '00, M.D., Baseball
An All-American, All-New England and All-Ivy selection, Jeff Lawler '00 left College Hill as one the most prolific hitters and versatile players in Ivy League history. Lawler currently ranks in the top 10 in nine different offensive categories, including fourth in both runs scored (140) and extra base hits (77). He racked up 188 career hits and was a consistent threat at the plate in terms of both contact and power, as he is still ranked seventh all-time in doubles (46), home runs (24) and RBIs (113).
Tivon R. Abel '98, Wrestling
A three-time First Team All-Ivy honoree, two-time Eastern champion and 1998 NCAA All-American, Tivon Abel '98 capped his Brown wrestling career with a fifth-place finish at 158 pounds at the 1998 NCAA Championships. Abel concluded his career first all-time at Brown in falls in a season with 14 falls in 1994-95, first all-time at Brown in consecutive wins with 25 wins in 1996-97 and third all-time at Brown in career falls with 29 falls from 1993-98.
Allison Schettini Evans '98, Ph.D., Women's Lacrosse
An IWLCA/Brine Third Team All-American in 1997, Alison Schettini Evans '98 still remains a constant in the Brown women's lacrosse record book, holding the program record for ground balls in a season with 84. She also has four career marks on the program's top-25 list. Over her four years, Evans gathered First Team All-Ivy accolades along with two Honorable Mention All-Ivy selections plus a pair of Academic All-Ivy honors.
David A. Evans '96, Men's Lacrosse
A three-time All-American, Dave Evans '96 helped Brown lacrosse capture back-to-back Ivy League championships, and left College Hill as one of the greatest scorers in the history of the storied program. vans earned consecutive All-American honors from 1994 to 1996, including First Team recognition the first two years, the first sophomore in program history to receive the award. He was named the Ivy League Player of the Year in 1995 and finished his career third all-time at Brown in both goals (145) and points (232).
Lisa Stern Kaplowitz '95, Gymnastics
A three-time ECAC champion, Lisa Stern Kaplowitz '95 concluded her Brown gymnastics career as the bars record holder for the Eastern College Athletic Conference, the Ivies and Brown University at the time of her graduation. The four-year First Team All-Ivy Classic and two-year All ECAC honoree captured the bars title at the 1992 ECAC Championship and won the all-around and bars titles at the 1993 ECAC Championship. She concluded her career as a four-time Team MVP.
Geoffrey C. Finch '94, Men's Ice Hockey
A First Team All-ECAC selection as a goaltender, Geoffrey Finch '94 left College Hill with a lofty list of individual accomplishments, but more importantly, he helped lead the Bears back to the NCAA Tournament. Finch was named the ECAC Rookie of the Year and improved his play over the course of his time at Brown, culminating in a standout senior campaign, when he was named First Team All-ECAC as the league's top goalie that season. He earned 13 wins with 675 saves as a senior, and currently stands fifth all-time at Brown with 1,891 career saves.
Elizabeth A. Morgan '90, M.D., Women's Soccer
The 1989 Ivy League Player of the Year and a three-time First Team All-Ivy selection, Elizabeth Morgan '90 helped lead Brown to four straight Ivy League titles. Morgan earned First Team All-Ivy in 1986, 1988 and 1989, while gaining Second Team All-Ivy in 1987 and finishing her career as a four-time All-Ivy recipient. The winner of Brown's Ridgely Most Valuable Player Award as a senior, she won Ivy titles in 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1989.
Carolyn S. Thornton-Iannuccilli '90, Softball
A three-time All-Ivy selection, Carolyn Thornton-Iannuccilli '90 helped Brown softball win the 1990 Ivy League title, finishing the year with an undefeated 7-0-1 mark in Ivy League play. Thornton-Iannuccilli earned First Team All-Ivy accolades as a junior and senior and collected Second Team All-Ivy honors as a sophomore. A wide-ranging center fielder with a strong arm, she set a school record at the time of her graduation with 80 put-outs in 1989.
Sue Cutler Christie '88, Women's Squash
A four-time All-American and All-Ivy selection, Sue Cutler Christie '88 will be remembered as one of the all-time greats to compete in squash at Brown. Christie quickly excelled on the court and was the first-ever recipient of the Kate Silver Memorial Award, given to the most outstanding first-year varsity female athlete. As a senior, Christie was ranked sixth in the country. In addition to squash, Christie was a member of the Bears' lacrosse team, earning Honorable Mention All-Ivy honors as a sophomore and First Team All-Ivy accolades as a junior while leading the league in goals.
Sarah "Pease" H. Glaser '83, Sailing
In the long annals of Brown sailing, there are few if any who can match the breadth and scope of Sarah "Pease" Herndon Glaser's '83 accomplishments. Her sailing career includes highest level competition in multiple types of boats in different class categories on a world stage over a period of a quarter century. While at Brown, Glasser was named New England Women's Sailor of the Year. In her senior year, Glasser finished third at the New England Dinghy Championships and ranked sixth in the world in dinghy competition. Following Brown, she went onto compete for team USA at the Olympics.
Jean Marie Burr, Special
Jean Marie Burr spent 26 years at the helm of the Brown women's basketball program from 1988-2014, tallying a program-best 324 wins. Her Bears compiled 12 winning seasons and captured four Ivy League championships, earning the league title in 1992, 1993, 1994 and 2006. Her 1994 squad was the first Ivy League team to appear in the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship, facing the University of Connecticut in the first round.
Jay Mayo "Ink" Williams '20, Special
A standout football and track & field student-athlete at Brown, Jay Mayo "Ink" Williams '20 earned All-America honors as a football end, served in World War I, played in the early years of the National Football League and enjoyed a career as a pioneering record producer in the music industry. Williams helped lead Brown to a 27-10-1 record over his four football playing seasons, and as a senior in 1920, he earned Walter Camp Honorable Mention All-America and New York Times Third Team All-America honors. Williams went on to earn even more acclaim as a pioneering producer of recorded blues music and was posthumously elected into the Blues Hall of Fame.
1991 Men's Lacrosse Team
The 1991 Brown men's lacrosse team fielded a talented roster that translated to an Ivy League championship and a run to the NCAA Tournament, but the true highlight was an unbeaten regular season, as the Bears achieved perfection for the first time in storied history of the program. Brown proved to be one of the all-time offensive juggernauts in program history in 1991, scoring 212 total goals, an average of over 15 goals per contest. The Bears finished the regular season at 13-0 and secured an undefeated regular season for the first time in 40 years of Brown lacrosse.
The Hall of Famers will also be recognized during Saturday's football game against Cornell, which kicks off at 1 PM.
