
Stillwell Posts 1,000th Career Kill, Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision to Dartmouth

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Sabrina Stillwell eclipsed the 1,000-career-kill plateau, but Brown University volleyball dropped a 3-1 (25-20, 25-19, 28-30, 25-19) decision to Dartmouth College on Saturday evening at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

Completing the first half of Ivy League play with their first home back-to-back Ivy weekend, the Bears (8-9, 1-6 Ivy) won set three in extra points before the Big Green (7-10, 3-4 Ivy) closed the match in four sets.

Stillwell (Laguna Beach, Calif.) posted her 11th double-double of the season on a match-high 14 kills and 15 digs and went over the 1,000-kill barrier in the third set. She has tallied double-figure kills in each of 14 matches this season and now has 1,002 career kills.

Junior Makena Ehlert (Orange County, Calif.) registered her second double-double in as many matches and third of the year with a match-high 14 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore Eliza Grover (Menlo Park, Calif.) added 10 kills, and sophomore Tylin Stiller (Evergreen, Colo.) chipped in eight kills on .316 hitting.

Sophomore Kristen Sellers (Menlo Park, Calif.) recorded her seventh double-double of the year on a match-high 41 assists and 12 digs, going over 40 assists for the seventh time as a rookie. Freshman libero Paris Winkler (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) contributed a match-best 18 digs, and senior Elisa Merten (Woodside, Calif.) finished with nine assists and seven digs.

The Bears held a 14-9 lead early in set one before the Big Green rallied to take an 18-17 edge. Brown remained within 21-19 before Dartmouth closed the set on a 4-1 run in a 25-20 set win. Stillwell terminated on five kills in the frame.

In set two, Brown used a 4-0 run to trim Dartmouth's advantage to 18-16. The Big Green responded with four straight points to hold on for a 25-19 set win. Ehlert paced the Bears with five kills on .500 hitting in the period.

Brown emerged with a 30-28 win in extra points in set three – a set that saw 11 ties and six lead changes. Down the stretch the two sides became tied at 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, and 28 before the Bears won the stanza's last two points on kills from Stillwell and Grover. Stillwell tallied six kills in the set while Sellers dished out 16 assists.

Dartmouth closed the match with a 25-19 win in set four despite four kills from Ehlert. Brown remained within 16-13 before the Big Green pulled ahead 21-14. The Bears cut the margin to 22-19 prior to the visitors claiming the match's final three points.

For Dartmouth, Mallen Bischoff charted a double-double on 10 kills and 18 digs, and Annemarie Horn compiled a double-double on 25 assists and 13 digs.

Next, Brown plays at Yale University on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 5:00 p.m. (ESPN+).
