
Women's Hockey Edged by Quinnipiac, 2-1

HAMDEN, Conn.. - The Brown women's hockey team was edged by Quinnipiac, 2-1, on Saturday at Frank Perrotti, Jr. Arena. All of the game's scoring was done in the second period, with the Bobcats scoring two straight in the frame and holding on to the victory.
The teams skated through a scoreless opening period, with the Bobcats outshooting the Bears, 11-7. Quinnipiac (13-11-2, 9-7-0 ECAC) had the only power play opportunity in the stanza and were 0-for-1.
It looked like the second would remain scoreless as well but Kenzie Lancaster broke the drought with her goal at 15:43 to give the Bobcats a 1-0 advantage. The Bobcats increased its lead at 17:44 when Melissa Samoskevich converted an unassisted tally. Brown (2-17-0, 1-11-0 ECAC) pulled within one (2-1) at 18:30 when junior Bridget Carey (Weymouth, Mass.) scored her third of the season with the help of freshman Kaitijane Blumberg (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.).
Quinnipiac ended the second with a 16-10 lead in shots. Brown was 2-for-2 on the penalty kill in the period and was 0-for-1 on its lone power play chance.
With the same score through 18 minutes of play in the third, the Bears pulled sophomore Calla Isaac (Sherwood Park, Alberta) at 18:32 for the extra skater to push for the tying goal, but the Bobcats came up with three blocked shots while Abbie Ives made a save to preserve the win for Quinnipiac.
Shots were 8-7 in favor of the Bobcats for the third while the Bears had two power play opportunities in the third and were shutout.
Overall, Quinnipiac held a 35-24 advantage in shots while both teams were 0-for-3 on the power play.
Isaac concluded the outing with 33 saves, her fifth-straight game with at least 30 stops and eighth overall on the season, while Ives made 23 saves in the Bobcat net.
Sophomore Sena Hanson (New Brighton, Minn.) registered seven shots on the offensive side for Brown while Blumberg added four.
Brown will next play a home-and-home series with Yale on Thursday, Jan. 18 and Saturday, Jan. 20. The Bears will travel to New Haven, Conn. for Thursday's 7:00 p.m. match-up and will return to Meehan Auditorium for Saturday's 1:00 p.m. game. Both contests will be broadcast on the Ivy League Network while Saturday's contest will also appear on ESPN3.
