NEW YORK – Columbia scored early in the seventh minute and added two more goals the rest of the way as the Brown men's soccer team fell on the road, 3-0, in the Ivy League opener for both teams Saturday at Rocco Commisso Stadium.
Brown dropped to 5-2-1 overall, while the Lions remained undefeated at 5-0-2 on the season.
Dylan Castanheira made a pair of stops to earn the win for Columbia. Senior Joey Cipicchio (Columbus, Ohio) recorded three saves for the Bears.
Dylan Mott opened the scoring at 6:16 when he followed up a blocked shot and hit home the rebound for his first goal of the season.
Columbia was awarded a penalty kick with just over ten minutes left in the first half after a Lion player was brought down in the box during a corner kick. Alex Bangerl then converted the penalty kick in the top right corner to give the home team the two-goal lead at the half.
Arthur Bosua made it a three-goal game at 78:29 when he fielded a pass from Beto Carillo and beat Cipicchio with a shot from the left side of the box.
The Bears continued to attack and tested the Lions with less than five minutes remaining, but Castanheira denied a late bid by Daniel Schiller, as the Columbia secured the shutout win. Defender Gabe Welp (West Chester, Ohio) also put a shot on target during the contest.
Senior back Louis Zingas (Warren, Mich.) paced the Bears with two shots.
Brown continues Ivy League play on Saturday, October 7 when the Bears play host to Princeton at 7 PM.
