PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Quinn English (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored the only goal of the game early in the second half as the Brown men's soccer team shut out Princeton, 1-0, in Ivy League action Saturday at Stevenson-Pincince Field.

Brown improved to 6-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the Ivy League. Princeton dropped to 2-6-2, 0-2-0.

Senior Joey Cipicchio (Columbus, Ohio) made one stop in net to earn his fourth shutout of the season. Jacob Schachner recorded four saves for Princeton in the loss.

After an evenly played first half, when Brown narrowly edged the Tigers in shots by a 5-4 margin, the Bears scored the go-ahead goal less the four minutes into the second stanza.

Defender Jackson Goebel (Houston, Texas) started the play when he launched the ball into Princeton territory, where Toby Howell (Bradenton, Fla.) fought for position, and headed a pass to the left side. Daniel Schiller (Glenview, Ill.) collected the ball and set up English in front, who finished with a one-timer for his second goal of the season.

Brown enjoyed a few more quality looks midway through the half, highlighted by a near breakaway, but Schachner came up with three timely saves to keep the visitors in the game.

Nevertheless, the Brown defense stepped up the remainder of the contest, limiting the Tigers to just two shots in the second stanza to secure the shutout.

Brown won the battle for shots, 14-6, and corner kicks, 11-2. Schiller led the Bears with four shots.

Brown will kick off three straight road games on Wednesday when the Bears visit Providence College at 7 PM.
