
Men's Hockey Announces 2016-17 Team Awards, Lafferty Named MVP

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's hockey program recently announced its team awards for the 2016-17 season.
Junior Sam Lafferty (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) was the recipient of The Class of 1936 Trophy, which is awarded annually to the player who through sportsmanship, performance and influence contributed the most to the sport at Brown.
Lafferty, who was recently named an assistant captain for the second straight year, led the team with 35 points and 22 assists in 31 games played. The center ranked second on the team with 13 goals and averaged 1.13 points per game, en route to Third Team All-ECAC honors. He also earned Second Team All-Ivy accolades and was named a semifinalist for the Walter Brown Award, presented annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New England.
Senior Andrew Doane (Holliston, Mass.) was honored with the Charles A. Lanigan Memorial Trophy. This award honors the late Brown trainer and is given to the senior hockey player who shows the most improvement during his varsity career. Doane served as team captain this past season, finishing with two goals and seven points, including the overtime game-winning goal at Dartmouth.
Junior Tyler Bird (Andover, Mass.) was the recipient of the Patrick S. Jones Memorial Trophy (Coaches' Award), awarded in honor of the former Brown hockey player. This award is given to that member of the team who generates the most spark and enthusiasm in building team spirit. Bird, who will serve as an assistant captain next season, finished fourth on the team in scoring with seven goals and five assists for 12 points.
Senior Tim Ernst (Pickering, Ontario) was awarded the Charles A Robinson, Jr. Memorial Trophy (Academic Excellence). Honoring the late Brown Classics professor, this trophy is given annually to the hockey letterman attaining the highest degree of academic excellence for the first seven semesters. Ernst appeared in ten games in net as a senior and wrapped up his career with 12 wins and three shutouts.
Freshman Brent Beaudoin (Londonderry, N.H.) was honored with the James H. Fullerton Trophy (Rookie-Of-The-Year). This award is given to the first-year player who in the eyes of his teammates contributed the most to the success of the team. Beaudoin, who played in all 31 games, paced all rookies on the team with five goals and seven assists for 12 points.
