
Women's Lacrosse Returns to Conference Action at No. 8/8 Cornell on Saturday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team will resume Ivy League play and head to No. 8/8 Cornell to face the Big Red on Saturday, April 8 for a 1:00 p.m. contest.

LAST TIME OUT
Brown split its spring break trip in California with a 14-13 win versus Cal on Wednesday, March 29 and a 13-8 loss at San Diego State on Friday, March 31. Sophomore Carolyn Paletta led the Bears in points for the week (7) with six goals and one assist. The Greenwich, Conn. native recorded five goals and one assist in the 14-13 win over Cal, including three goals in the second half. Freshman Maggie Bigelow picked up her first-career win against the Golden Bears with 10 saves.
LAST YEAR VS. CORNELL
In last year's meeting, Cornell defeated Brown, 10-2, at Stevenson-Pincince Field on March 26. Junior Rose Mangiarotti and sophomore Hafsa Moinuddin recorded goals for the Bears in the contest.
SCOUTING THE BIG RED
Cornell enters Saturday with an 8-1 overall record and a perfect 3-0 mark in the Ivy League while ranking No. 8 in both the IWLCA Coaches Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Poll. The Big Red are coming off a 17-3 win over Binghamton on Tuesday. Cornell has won seven straight with its only loss of the season coming against No. 6/6 Penn State (9-8) on Feb. 25. Amie Dickson leads the team in points (35) with 14 goals and a team-high 21 assists. Catherine Ellis carries the Big Red's goal lead with 21 on the season to go along with 11 assists for 32 points, second-best on the squad. Renee Poullott has appeared in goal in all nine games and has recorded a 7.03 goals-against average (first in Ivies) and a .545 saver percentage for an 8-1 record. Cornell's defense ranks fourth in the nation in scoring defense, allowing 7.63 goals per game. The team also carries the fourth-best free position percentage in the country (.537).
BROWN LEADERS
The Bears offense is powered by sophomore Hafsa Moinuddin, who has 26 points on 21 goals and five assists. Sophomore Carolyn Paletta is second on the team in scoring with 21 goals and two assists for 23 points while sophomore Zoe Verni (15G, 2A) is third in scoring. Junior Marissa Hudgins is Brown's caused turnover leader with 23, which ranks second in the conference (2.30 per game). She also paces the Bears in ground balls with 32 on the year, which ranks fourth in the Ivy League (3.20 per game). Junior Mikaela Karlsson has started eight games in net and has an 8.07 goals-against average and a .536 save percentage. Freshman Maggie Bigelow recorded her first-career win against Cal and then started her first game versus San Diego State last week. The rookie has totaled a 10.64 GAA this season along with a .511 save percentage.
