PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown men's hockey head coach Brendan Whittet has announced that rising senior Josh McArdle (Roscoe, Ill.) will serve as team captain for the 2017-18 season. In addition, rising seniors Sam Lafferty (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) and Tyler Bird (Andover, Mass.) will serve as assistant captains.
"Josh is a leader who adheres to very high standards," said Whittet. "He consistently prepares, practices and competes with determination, intensity and effort. Our team can look to Josh as an example of how intensely driven one should be when they represent our program and university. I look forward to working in conjunction with Josh and our team as we positively progress towards the 2017-18 season."
McArdle will wear the "C" after serving as one of the team's assistant captains this past season. A veteran defenseman, McArdle earned Honorable Mention All-Ivy honors for the first time in his career as a junior, appearing in 27 games with five assists in conference play. He heads into the 2017-18 campaign with 89 games played over the last three seasons.
"There is no bigger honor than being selected to captain a team, especially when it's for a group of guys like we have here," said McArdle. "The character and work ethic within our room is incredible and I know I speak for all of us when I say we are ready to do whatever it takes to prepare for this program to compete next season."
Lafferty will be an assistant captain for the second straight year, while Bird will serve as an assistant for the first time in his career.
