No. 9 Women's Crew Beats No. 6 Yale in First, Third Varsity Eights

DERBY, Conn. – No. 9 Brown University women's crew beat No. 6 Yale University in the first varsity eight and third varsity eight races on the Housatonic River in the regular season finale for both teams on Saturday morning.
In the final race prior to the Ivy League Championship for both programs, the Bears topped the Bulldogs in the day's marquee race – the first varsity eight – as well as in the morning's opening event – the third varsity eight – while the hosts took victories in the second varsity eight, A varsity four, and B varsity four.
Brown won the first varsity eight with a time of 6:14.9, edging the Bulldogs (6:17.6) by 2.7 seconds.
In the third varsity eight, the visitors crossed the finish in a time of 6:45.7, topping Yale (6:53.6) by 7.9 seconds. The Bears became the first crew this season to defeat the Bulldogs in the third varsity eight.
In the latest Ivy League Women's Poll, the Bears came into the day trailing the Bulldogs in both the first varsity eight and third varsity eight rankings.
The Bears' second varsity eight clocked in with a time of 6:33.8, trailing the Bulldogs (6:31.1) by 2.7 seconds.
In the A varsity four, Brown came in second behind a time of 7:34.1, falling to Yale (7:19.8) by 14.3 seconds.
Closing the day with the B/C varsity four race, Yale won in a time of 7:10.4 with Brown's B varsity four (7:17.3) and C varsity four (7:20.2), trailing by 6.9 and 9.8 seconds respectively.
Yale claimed the Case and Boucher Cup (previously known as the Nat & Anne Case Cup) with its victories in the second varsity eight and A varsity four, taking two of the three NCAA races.
Next, Brown will compete at the Ivy League Championship on Sunday, May 14 at Copper River Park in Pennsauken, N.J., with morning heats beginning at 8 a.m.
