
Women's Lacrosse Travels to California to Play Cal (Wed.) and San Diego State (Fri.)

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team will travel to California to face Cal in San Diego on Wednesday, March 29 for an 8:00 ET contest and then play San Diego State on Friday, March 31 in another 8:00 ET game.

LAST TIME OUT
Brown was defeated by No. 11/11 Penn, 7-2, on Saturday at Stevenson-Pincince Field. Despite 10 saves from junior Mikaela Karlsson, the Quaker attack proved too strong as they outshot the Bears 29-17 in the game. Sophomores Zoe Verni and Carolyn Paletta recorded goals for the Bears.
ALL-TIME VS. CAL
Brown is 0-2 all-time versus Cal with the first meeting coming in 2003, a 11-5 win for Cal in Berkeley, Calif. The two teams last met in 2005 with the Golden Bears coming away with a 10-9 win in Providence.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN BEARS
Cal enters the week with a 2-8 record and last played San Diego State on Sunday, March 26, falling to the Aztecs 14-13 in overtime. The Golden Bears have posted wins this season over Butler (19-7, Feb. 24) and Marquette (18-11, Mar. 16). Jena Fritts leads the team in points with 35, on a team-best 28 goals and seven assists. Susie Ropp leads the Golden Bears in assists with nine and also has 15 goals for 24 points, ranking second on the team in scoring. Jenny Wilkens has appeared in net in 10 games and has recorded a 14.33 goals-against average and a .426 save percentage for a 2-7 record.
ALL-TIME VS. SAN DIEGO STATE
The Bears are 0-1 all-time against the Aztecs with the lone game coming in 2015, a narrow 13-12 loss for the Bears on March 31 in Providence. Junior Emma Dahle scored two goals and had an assist in the game for Brown.
SCOUTING THE AZTEC
San Diego State carries a record of 7-3 into the week and most recently defeated Cal, 14-13, in overtime on Sunday, March 26. The Aztecs have played one Ivy League opponent in Columbia, and were defeated 14-11 on March 18. Kristen Hickey leads the team in points with 25, on team-highs in goals (21) and assists (4). Alex Watson is second on the Aztecs in scoring with 17 goals and three assists for 20 points. Katarina Reeves has appeared in 10 games in goal and has put together a 11.22 goals-against average and a .457 save percentage for a 6-3 record.
BROWN LEADERS
The Bears offense is powered by sophomore Hafsa Moinuddin, who has 20 points on 16 goals and four assists. Sophomore Carolyn Paletta is second on the team in scoring with 15 goals and one assist for 16 points while sophomore Zoe Verni (11G, 1A) is third in scoring. Junior Marissa Hudgins is Brown's caused turnover leader with 20, which ranks second in the conference (2.50 per game). She also paces the Bears in ground balls with 27 on the year, which ranks third in the Ivy League (3.38 per game). Junior Mikaela Karlsson has started all eight games in net and carries a 7.53 goals-against average (third in Ivies) and a .557 save percentage (third in Ivies). Offensively, Brown is outscoring its opponents 80-60 overall on the season.
BEARS DEFENSE RANKS SIXTH IN THE NATION
Entering the week, Brown's defense ranks sixth in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 7.50 goals per game. To open the season, the Bears posted a 19-0 shutout over Sacred Heart on Feb. 18. Junior goalie Mikaela Karlsson ranks fourth nationally in goals-against average (7.53) and is sixth in save percentage (.557).
