PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's tennis team defeated No. 41 William & Mary, 4-3, on Saturday at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The Tribe took the doubles point and the Bears responded with four wins in singles play, with the match clinching victory coming from senior Mariska Chamdani (Santa Clara, Calif.) in sixth singles.
William & Mary opened the match winning the doubles point with triumphs in first and second doubles.
Junior Alyza Benotto (Los Angeles, Calif.) knotted the match at 1-1 with her 6-1, 6-4 victory in second singles. Senior Dayna Lord (Bloomfield, Conn.) followed in first singles with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win to give the Bears a 2-1 advantage. William & Mary would claim a win in third singles to tie the match (2-2). Sophomore Taylor Cosme (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) put the Bears back up one (3-2) with a 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (2) showing in fourth singles. The Tribe again tied the score with a fifth singles win. Chamdani gave the Bears the win with a 6-4, 7-5 victory in sixth singles.
The Bears will travel to California next week to take on UC Irvine on Tuesday, March 28 at 11:00 a.m. PT and Long Beach State on Thursday, March 30 at 2:00 p.m. PT.
