
Women's Lacrosse Opens Ivy Play with Trip to No. 11/12 Princeton on Saturday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team will open Ivy League action on Saturday, March 4 with a trip to Princeton, N.J. to face the No. 11/12 Tigers for a 1:00 p.m. contest.

LAST TIME OUT
The Bears were edged by No. 20/20 Louisville, 13-9, on Saturday, Feb. 25 in a neutral site game at Lake Mary High School in Florida. The Cardinals held a slight lead at halftime, 5-4, and pulled away in the second, outscoring the Bears 8-5 in the stanza. Sophomore Carolyn Paletta led Brown in scoring with a hat trick and an assist.
LAST TIME VS. PRINCETON
In last season's matchup, the regular season finale for both teams, the No. 12 Tigers defeated the Bears, 8-3, at Stevenson-Pincince Field on April 30. Brown played tough against nationally ranked Princeton, holding a 29-16 lead in shots. Senior Jillian Lee led the Bears in scoring for the contest with two goals.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Princeton is coming off of a 15-14 win over Loyola on Wednesday, March 1 and brings a 3-0 record into Saturday. Olivia Hompe leads Princeton and the conference in goals with 16. She also has three assists to for a team-high 19 points. Colby Chanenchuk carries the team lead in assists with eight on the year to go along with four goals for 12 points (second on the team). Ellie DeGarmo has played a complete 180:00 minutes in all three games and has logged a 9.00 goals-against average and a .571 save percentage. As a team, the Tigers lead the conference in goals per game (17.00), assists per game (8.67) and points per game (25.67).
BROWN LEADERS
The Bears offense is powered by sophomore Hafsa Moinuddin, who has 12 points on 10 goals and two assists. Sophomore Carolyn Paletta is second on the team in scoring with six goals and one assist for seven points. Junior Emma Dahle (2G, 3A) and sophomore Grace Plassche (4G, 1A) are tied for third in scoring. Junior Mikaela Karlsson has started all three games in net and carries a 5.90 goals-against average and a 63.8 save percentage.
IVY LEAGUE PLAY UNDERWAY
Conference games for all eight schools will begin this weekend, starting on Saturday. The Saturday match-ups include Brown at Princeton (1:00 p.m.), Yale at Harvard (1:00 p.m.) and Cornell at Penn (1:00 p.m.) while Sunday's lone contest is Dartmouth at Columbia (1:00 p.m.).
BEARS DEFENSE RANKS SECOND IN THE NATION
Brown's defense ranks second in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 5.67 goals per game. To open the season, the Bears posted a 19-0 shutout over Sacred Heart on Feb. 18. Junior goalie Mikaela Karlsson is third in the nation in both GAA (5.90) and save percentage (63.8).
