
Men's Swimming & Diving Finishes Sixth at Ivy League Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Brown men's swimming & diving team finished sixth with 796 points in the Ivy Championship at Blodgett Pool. Harvard captured the title with 1705 points while Penn (1335) and Columbia (1208) rounded out the top-three.
"We are very happy with the team's performance this weekend," said head coach Chris Ip. "It was encouraging to cut last year's deficit in half this season. I'm looking forward to continuing our momentum into the spring and summer in preparations for next year."
Junior Grant Casey (North Attleboro, Mass.) again opened up the night's finals, this time in the 1650 freestyle, finishing 18th with a time of 15:49.18 while freshman Troy Li (Carmel, Ind.) came in 19th (15:52.29).
Freshman Coley Sullivan (Louisville, Ky.) and sophomore Nicholas Brown (Sudbury, Mass.) both placed third in the B Final of the 200 backstroke with an identical time of 1:47.83. Senior Nicholas Johnston (Pleasanton, Calif.) also finished in the race, touching the wall in sixth (1:48.61).
In the 100 freestyle, freshman Cody Cline (Wellington, Fla.) won the C Final with a time of 44.37 while senior Daniel Klotz (Berlin, Conn.) came in second in the B Final with a mark of 44.55. Freshman Alex Smilenov (Katy, Texas) placed fifth in the B final (44.82) while freshman Jagger Stephens (Agana Heights, Hagatna, Guam) was fifth in the C Final (45.07).
Senior Connor Lohman (Prospect, Ky.) swam to eighth place in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:02.33 in the B Final. Freshman Toshiki Takahashi (Tokyo, Japan) (2:03.97, third) and sophomore Waylon Jin (Berwyn, Pa.) (2:04.84, fifth) competed in the C Final.
Junior Riley Springman (Orlando, Fla.) put up an NCAA B time of 1:46.68 in the A Final of the 200 butterfly. His prelim time of 1:46.44 is the third-best mark at Brown. Sophomore William Steele (Katy, Texas) won the C Final of the event in 1:47.65, also a NCAA B cut time.
To close out the night and championship, Cline, Klotz, Smilenov and Stephens finished sixth in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 2:57.87.
