Women's Hockey Entertains No. 7/7 St. Lawrence (Fri.) and No. 3/3 Clarkson (Sat.)

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's hockey team returns home to Meehan Auditorium to host a pair of ranked opponents in No. 7/7 St. Lawrence and No. 3/3 Clarkson, the defending NCAA Champion, on Friday, Nov. 3 and Saturday, Nov. 4, respectively. The game against the Saints will begin at 6:00 p.m. while the contest versus the Golden Knights will start at 3:00 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on the Ivy League Network.

SCOUTING THE SAINTS
St. Lawrence is 3-3-2 on the season and 1-1-0 in league play and carries a No. 7 ranking in both the USCHO.com and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls. The Saints split last weekend, falling to No. 9/9 Cornell, 3-1, on Friday, Oct. 27, and knocking off No. 5/5 Colgate by the same score (3-1) on Saturday, Oct. 28. SLU recorded its other two wins at Mercyhurst (4-1, Oct. 6) and at Merrimack (2-1, Oct. 13). Kennedy Marchment (4G, 5A) and Hannah Miller (2G, 7A) lead the Saints in scoring with nine points each. Grace Harrison has played between the pipes in six games and has a 1.80 goals-against average, a .919 save percentage and one shutout while Sonjia Shelly has appeared two games with a 2.51 GAA and a .889 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
The defending NCAA Champion Clarkson enters the weekend with a 8-1-1 overall record and a 1-1-0 mark in the ECAC while ranked No. 3 in both polls. The Golden Knights' lone loss on the year came against No. 5/5 Colgate on Friday, Oct. 27 in overtime, 4-3. Clarkson's tie was against No. 8/8 Northeastern on Sept. 29 (1-1 OT) to open the season. The Golden Knights split last weekend with the loss to Colgate and a 6-0 win over then No. 9/9 Cornell (Oct. 28). Prior to Saturday's game against Brown, Clarkson will play at Yale on Friday, Nov. 3. Elizabeth Giguere leads the squad in scoring with seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points, which is tied for second-best in the nation. Loren Gabel is right behind her in scoring with nine goals and eight helpers for 17 points, fourth-best in the NCAA. Goaltender Shea Tiley also ranks nationally for the Golden Knights, with a 1.29 goals-against average (fourth) and tied for the national lead in shutouts with four on the year. Tiley also has a .938 save percentage (ninth). As a team, Clarkson ranks seventh in the nation in team offense with a 3.60 goals per game average and is third overall in team defense, with a 1.29 GAA. The Golden Knights' power-play percentage is also tops in the nation (30.56).
BROWN TALKING POINTS
Freshman Kaitijane Blumberg leads the Bears in scoring with four points, on one goal and three assists. The rookie is currently on a three-game point streak, having not scored in only her first collegiate game. Blumberg closed out last weekend with one goal and two assists, recording her first career score at Union on Friday, Oct. 27. Sophomores Alley Rempe (2G, 1A) and Veronica Alois (1G, 2A) rank second on the team in scoring. Rempe joins Blumberg and is also on a three-game point streak with two goals and one assist recorded in the span.
Goaltending duties have been split for the Bears this season with all three netminders - senior Julianne Landry, sophomore Calla Isaac and freshman Lauren Rippy - seeing action with two games played apiece. Isaac made a career-high 48 saves against No. 10/RV Robert Morris on Saturday, Oct. 21 while Rippy has posted 31 saves in each of her two outings.
LAST TIME OUT
Brown dropped two games last weekend in its first away contests of the season, at Union (6-3) on Friday, Oct. 27, and at Rensselaer (4-1) on Saturday, Oct. 28. Against the Dutchwomen to open the weekend, the Bears were first to strike in the game but Union countered with two goals before the end of the opening period to take a lead into the first intermission. Union would add two goals in each period while Brown tried to keep pace but generated just one score in each stanza, including freshman Kaitijane Blumberg's first career goal in the third.
At RPI the following day, after a scoreless first, the Engineers claimed a 1-0 advantage on a penalty shot in the second. Sophomore Alley Rempe scored her second goal in as many days to tie the contest but the Engineers would record two power-play goals and an empty net score for the victory.
NEXT UP
Brown will make a quick trip up to Cambridge, Mass. to face RV/RV Harvard on Friday, Nov. 10 and will then travel to Hanover, N.H. to square off against Dartmouth on Saturday, Nov. 4. The game against the Crimson will begin at 6:00 p.m. while the contest versus the Big Green will start at 3:00 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on the Ivy League Network.
