HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Luke Brown scored the only goal of the game in the 36 minute as the Brown men's soccer team fell at Hofstra, 1-0, in the final non-conference game of the season Tuesday night at HU Soccer Stadium.
Brown moves to 8-5-2 overall, while Hofstra improves to 6-5-6 on the season.
Senior Joey Cipicchio (Columbus, Ohio) turned away four shots for the Bears. Alex Ashton also had four saves in the win for the Pride.
Hofstra opened the scoring at 35:01, when Luke Brown took advantage of a loose ball in front of the net and put home the unassisted shot, giving the home side the one-goal lead. Cipicchio made three saves earlier in the half to keep the Bears within reach at halftime.
Brown came out strong to start the second half as Toby Howell (Bradenton, Fla.) tested Ashton three minutes into the stanza, but the keeper corralled the attempt to pick up his first save of the contest.
The Brown offense continued to attack throughout the rest of the half with three more shots on target, including a final header attempt by Jack Hagstrom (Middleton, Wis.) in the 87th minute. Nevertheless, Ashton kept the Bears off the board to secure the win for the Pride.
Howell paced the Bears with four shots. Brown held a slim edge in corner kicks, 5-3.
Brown will return to Ivy League play on Saturday when the Bears visit Yale at 7 PM.
