PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Toby Howell (Bradenton, Fla.) scored the only goal of the game and Joey Cipicchio (Columbus, Ohio) made three saves as the Brown men's soccer team blanked UMass Lowell in non-conference action Tuesday night at a windy Stevenson-Pincince Field.

Brown improved to 7-4-2 overall and 5-0-1 at home. UMass Lowell dropped to 7-6-1 on the season.

Cipicchio made all three of his saves in the second half to register his fifth shutout of the season. Austin Kroll recorded one stop for the River Hawks.

Howell put the Bears on the board in the 13th minute with his team-high fifth goal of the campaign. After senior Quinn English (Milwaukee, Wis.) launched a throw-in from the left side, Howell beat a defender and flicked a header past the reach of Kroll for the early lead. English was credited with his team-best fourth assist.

The heavy dose of wind limited the amount of quality looks on both sides as the River Hawks edged the Bears in shots, 3-2, at halftime.

UMass Lowell controlled possession for most of the second half and came away with two strong chances, as both shots in front deflected off a Brown defender, but Cipicchio was able to change direction at the last second for a pair of diving saves.

Dario Jovanovski made one final attempt in the 87th minute, but was again denied by Cipicchio, while Kroll made his lone save of the contest 16 seconds later to prevent Daniel Schiller's (Glenview, Ill.) bid for an insurance goal. Brown kept the River Hawks at the bay for the final three minutes to secure the shutout win.

UML outshot Brown, 12-6, overall.

Brown will return to Ivy League play on Saturday when the Bears host Penn at 7 PM.
