PRINCETON, N.J. – Brown University women's soccer freshman defender Sydney Cummings has won Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors after the Bears blanked Harvard, 1-0, on Saturday, the Ivy League announced on Monday.
A native of Millstone Township, N.J., Cummings helped Brown shutout Harvard as the Bears defeated the Crimson for the first time since 2010. The starting center back in the team's 3-5-2 formation, she has played all 1,201 minutes this season. Cummings has aided Brown in a pair of clean sheets in Ivy League play – and four shutouts overall – this fall.
Brown has now had three different student-athletes earn Ivy League Rookie of the Week accolades this season as freshman Zeinab Kante (Dallas, Texas) won the award on Aug. 28 and classmate Star White (Norfolk, Va.) collected the plaudits on Sept. 25.
Cummings and the Bears return to play at Cornell on Sat., Oct. 21 at 1:30 p.m.
Video of all Brown women's soccer home contests and all Ivy League games, home and away, will be broadcast live on the Ivy League Network.
