
Men's Soccer Set to Host Georgia St. (9/9) and SMU (9/11) in Capital City Classic

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's soccer team will continue its three-game hometand with the Capital City Classic this weekend, hosting Georgia State on Friday (7 PM) and SMU on Sunday (1 PM) at Stevenson-Pincince Field.

CAPITAL CITY CLASSIC
The Capital City Classic will feature Brown and Providence College in a four-team tournament with a pair of home games for each Rhode Island school. The championship will be awarded based on points accumulated throughout the weekend. Teams will be awarded three points for a win and one point for a tie. The All-Tournament Team will be announced following the final games on Sunday.
LAST TIME OUT
Brown shutout state rival Bryant, 1-0, last Friday in the season opener. Nate Pomeroy scored the lone goal of the game in the 63rd minute, while Nico Lozada picked up the assist. Erik Hanson earned the start in net and made one save for his fourth career shutout. Brown outshot the Bulldogs, 14-5.
SCOUTING GEORGIA STATE
Georgia State has rattled off three straight wins and heads into Rhode Island with a 3-1 record. Sophomore Hannes Burmeister, who notched back-to-back hat tricks in wins over Memphis and Lipscomb, has six goals and one assist for 13 points over four contests. Yannic Horn has played all four games in net, making 19 saves with a 1.00 goals against average. The Panthers have scored nine of their 11 goals in the second half of games.
LAST TIME AGAINST GSU
Brown dropped a 3-2 decision at Georgia State last season. Jack Hagstrom and Will Cross both scored in the contest.
SCOUTING SMU
SMU enters the weekend at 2-2 overall and most recently lost to American, 3-1. The Mustangs will face Providence College on Friday night before making the trip to College Hill on Sunday. Brendan Lee leads the team with three goals on nine shots, while Mauro Cichero is second with a pair of goals. Michael Nelson is 2-2 in net with a 1.50 goals against average and 15 saves in four games. SMU won a pair of games in the 2015 NCAA Tournament before bowing out in the Sweet Sixteen to Akron, 2-1.
LAST TIME AGAINST SMU
Brown is 1-1-0 all-time against SMU. The two teams last met in 2009, when the Bears won 1-0 at home.
COMING UP
After this weekend, Brown will round out September with five straight road games, starting with UMass Lowell on Wednesday (9/14).
