LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Brown field hockey team was defeated at No. 12 Louisville, 7-1, on Saturday afternoon at Trager Stadium. The contest was the Bears' final game in Louisville's tournament.

The Cardinals' (3-0) Katie Walsh put Louisville on the board, giving the team a 1-0 lead, at 3:55 off of a penalty corner that was set up by Erin McCrudden and Nicole Woods to open the game's scoring. Louisville added to its lead when Lizzie Gittens made it 2-0 at 17:04 on another penalty corner, receiving the feed from Woods and Stephanie Byrne.

The first half ended with Louisville carrying an 8-2 lead in shots.

Louisville opened the second half with a score from Lotta Kahlert to take a 3-0 lead at 36:51 when she collected the ball off a rebound.

The Bears (0-2) halted the Cardinals' scoring when senior Lucy Green (Providence, R.I.) tallied her first goal of the year with a feed from freshman Gina Openshaw (Annapolis, Md.), to pull Brown within two of Louisville (3-1) at 46:12. Openshaw's assist was her first collegiate point.

Louisville then went on to score four unanswered goals (48:37, 49:35, 55:09, 59:45) to seal the game, 7-1.

Gittens finished the game with two goals for Louisville while Woods and McCrudden each had two assists.The Cardinals had 10 penalty corners compared to Brown's 2.

Sophomore Katie Hammaker (Ephrata, Pa.) recorded nine saves in net for the Bears while Elina Pereira turned away one shot for the Cardinals.

The Bears will next play in their home-opening game at Goldberger Family Field, hosting Rider on Saturday, Sept. 10 for a noontime contest.
