LOWELL, Mass. – Jack Hagstrom (Middleton, Wis.) gave the Brown men's soccer team an early lead, but UMass Lowell notched a pair of second-half goals secure the victory, 2-1, in Wednesday's non-conference game at Cushing Field.

Brown (3-1) suffered its first loss of the season, while UMass Lowell improved to 6-0 to remain undefeated.

Hagstrom put the Bears on the board in the ninth minute with his first goal of the season. Junior Nico Lozada (Dallas, Texas) sent a cross into the box for Hagstrom, who converted the header at the back post to give the visitors the early lead. Lozada earned his third assist in four games.

UML tallied the equalizer early in the second half when Wuilito Fernandes evened the score at 51:40 with his sixth goal of the year.

The game seemed destined for overtime with less than five minutes remaining, but rookie Ivan Abramovic scored the go-ahead goal at 85:07, as he settled a cross from Carlos Ruiz and hit the bottom right corner to push the home team in front.

The Bears had one final corner kick two minutes later, but could not find the back of the net as the River Hawks held on for the win.

UMass Lowell outshot the Bears by a 14-4 margin. Erik Hanson (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) made one save for the Bears, while UML keeper Austin Kroll faced just one shot on target. Brown took more corner kicks by a 4-2 margin.

Brown will continue its five-game road swing on Saturday when they visit Massachusetts at 4 PM.
