Trevor Banks Joins Men's Soccer Program as Assistant Coach

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Friends of Brown Men's Soccer Head Coaching Chair Patrick Laughlin has announced the hiring of Trevor Banks as an assistant coach, announced by the program on Friday. Banks comes to Brown from Villanova of the Big East Conference, where he spent the 2015 season as an assistant coach.
"I'm really looking forward to Trevor starting here at Brown," said Laughlin. "He is a bright, talented and energetic coach who will add a great deal to the men's soccer program."
"I would like to thank Director of Athletics Jack Hayes, Associate Director of Athletics Jeanne Carhart and Pat Laughlin for giving me this opportunity to be part of such a prestigious program and institution," said Banks.
Before Villanova, Banks spent three years at the Merchant Marine Academy, where he oversaw the program's recruiting efforts, player development, strength and conditioning program and administrative duties. Defensive training is Banks' specialty. In the three years Banks was with the Merchant Marine Academy, he helped coach the Mariners to a record of 24-23-3 (13-9 Conference), a goal against average (GAA) of .87, 17 shutouts and a couple of appearances in the Landmark Conference playoffs. In Banks' time with the Merchant Marine Academy, he helped place eight players on the Landmark Conference first team with one player (Gavin Yingling) being named Conference Player of the Year.
Banks also worked with the Long Island Rough Riders of the USLPDL from 2012-2014. With the Rough Riders, Banks was in charge of the goalkeeping corp. In 2014 Banks mentored goalkeeper Joe Martin to a GAA of .74 and six shutouts. Banks also assisted in other aspects of training, the recruitment and signing of players and match evaluation.
Before his time in New York, Banks spent the 2011 season working with the defensive core at Barry University and helped the team post a GAA of 0.90. During that time, Banks mentored goalkeeper Johnny Rodrigues, who was named to the All-Sunshine State Conference First Team, Daktronics All-South Region First Team and a Daktronics Honorable Mention All-American. Banks helped coach Barry's 2011 squad to a record of 12-3-6 (3-2-3 Conference), an appearance in the conference finals and a run to the NCAA Division II Sweet 16, ending the year ranked 13th in the nation.
Banks started his coaching career in 2009 at William Woods University. In the 2009 season, he worked closely with goalkeeper Robert Thibodeaux, who posted a single-season record-setting GAA of 0.76 while also being named to the All-Conference Honorable Mention. In the 2010 season, Banks was a part of a program at William Woods that found itself in its first appearance in the conference semifinals, losing to eventual champions Park University.
A native of Carenco, Louisiana, Banks played his collegiate soccer at Kentucky Wesleyan College from 2006-09 and also logged five seasons in the United States Soccer League. He earned a degree in Communications from Kentucky Wesleyan and added a master's degree in Education from William Woods University in 2010.
Banks owns a USSF National "B" License and NSCAA Advance National Goalkeeper Diploma.
