
Women's Lacrosse Defeated by Sacred Heart, 13-9

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Freshman Hafsa Moinuddin (Cheshire, Conn.) recorded her first-career hat trick but Sacred Heart had three players register three or more goals to lead the Pioneers over Brown women's lacrosse, 13-9, on Saturday at Campus Field.
Even though Brown held a 24-20 advantage in shots, Sacred Heart outscored the Bears by two in each half to come away with the win.
Sacred Heart (4-4) went up by two to open the first half, with tallies from Emily Kick (28:46) and Caitlin Delaney (26:13).
Brown (4-6) responded with three-straight goals in less than two minutes to take a 3-2 advantage. Sophomore Lindsey Repp (Scarsdale, N.Y.) started the Bears' scoring at 25:53, while receiving the feed from freshman Alex O'Donnell (Moorestown, N.J.), for her first goal of the season. The assist from O'Donnell was the rookie's first-career point. Freshman Zoe Verni (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) registered the next goal, her fifth of the year on a man-up free position score, at 25:13. Senior Lauren Toy (Kentfield, Calif.) closed out the run with her team-leading 18th score of the year at 24:30.
The Pioneers proceeded to score four unanswered goals, two from both Jesslyn Joseph (23:29, 20:57) and Alyssa Pearce (15:22, 12:57) to gain a 6-3 lead.
Moinuddin closed out the scoring in the opening half with her sixth goal of the year (free position) at 7:10, which gave her a goal in each of the last four games, and at least one point in six-straight games.
Both teams could not score another goal in the last seven minutes of action as the Pioneers carried a 6-4 edge going into the break.
To start the second half, Sacred Heart scored two straight goals to take an 8-4 lead. Pearce completed a hat trick, with the first goal in the sequence.
Junior Jillian Lee (Cold Springs Harbor, N.Y.) broke up the scoring with her 10th goal of the season (22:56), bringing the Bears within three (8-5).
The Pioneers following with two goals (20:21, 19:41), with Joseph registering a hat trick in the latter score. Repp scored the next tally for Brown at 19:23, her second of the game on a free position goal to bring the score to 10-6.
Sacred Heart added another goal at 15:00 before senior Sarah Nesi (Westport, Conn.) scored a free position goal to bring the scored (12:26).
The Pioneers then scored two-straight before Moinuddin had two-straight of her own at 2:21 and 0:55, for her first career hat trick, giving Brown the offensive momentum, but time would expire before the Bears could do more damage.
Brown held the overall edge in draw controls 18-6. The Bears were 4-for-8 on free position shots while Sacred Heart went a perfect 2-for-2.
Senior Victoria Holland (Huntington, N.Y.) recorded four saves in 48:23 of action while Paige Hammick stopped nine shots in a full 60 minutes.
The Bears will next travel to Cambridge, Mass. to compete against Ivy League foe Harvard on Saturday, April 9 for a 1:00 p.m. game.
