
Women's Lacrosse Continues Ivy League Play on Saturday Versus Cornell

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team will continue Ivy League play and host unbeaten Cornell on Saturday, March 26 at Stevenson-Pincince Field for a 1:00 p.m. contest.

ALL-TIME VERSUS CORNELL
The Bears are 13-21 all-time against Cornell, having dropped last season's match-up in Ithaca, N.Y., 14-6. Seniors Lauren Toy and Dianne Vitkus along with sophomore Emma Dahle scored in the game.
SCOUTING THE BIG RED
Cornell enters Saturday's contest unbeaten on the year and having defeated No. 19 Albany, 9-5, on Feb. 27. The Big Red has competed in two Ivy League games so far this season with wins over Yale, 10-6 (Mar. 5), and Columbia, 14-7 (Mar. 12). Cornell recently played a non-conference game against California on Wednesday, winning 12-4. Nationally, Cornell is receiving votes in the Inside Lacrosse Poll. Scoring on the team is spread out amongst 15 players with Taylor Reed leading the Big Red with a squad-best 14 points on eight goals and six assists. Olivia Mattyasovszky has the team-lead in goals with 11 on the year, pairing with one assist for 12 points. Lastly, Emily Tripodi has a team-best nine assists to go along with three goals for 12 points. Renee Poullott has started all six games in net, and has recorded a 6.02 goals against average and .493 save percentage in 348:53 of action.
LAST TIME OUT: BEARS EDGED BY YALE, 6-5
Senior Lauren Toy recorded her third hat trick of the season, but it was Yale that came out on top in a 6-5 decision on Saturday, March 26 at Reese Stadium. Brown struck first, jumping out to a 1-0 lead 2:36 into the game, on an unassisted goal from Toy. Yale then went on to close out the half with five straight tallies.
After the break, sophomore Rose Mangiarotti buried a shot just 3:21 into the frame. Toy followed with her second goal of the game less than two minutes later - this time off a setup from freshman Hafsa Moinuddin - before her third score of the afternoon made it 5-4 with 21:27 remaining. Yale struck again, pushing it to 6-4, but Moinuddin responded with her second goal of the day to get Brown back within one (6-5). That was as close as it would get however, as Yale held on for the 6-5 win.
For the game, the Bulldogs held an 18-13 advantage in shots, including two off the post in the final 10 minutes of play. Senior Victoria Holland finished with four saves in the loss while her counterpart, Sydney Marks, stopped five shots at the other end of the field.
TOY LEADS BEARS IN SCORING
For the second-straight year, senior Lauren Toy leads the Bears in goals (16) and points (23). This season she also leads the squad in assists (7). The tri-captain has recorded three hat tricks, her first, a four-goal performance in the team's first game, her second, a three goal and two assist performance against Bryant to capture Brown's seventh-straight Ocean State Cup, and her third, three goals at Yale. Toy has registered multiple points in six of the Bears' seven games, and has found the back of the net in 22 of the Bears' last 24 contests, dating back to the start of the 2015 season. Toy is tied for fifth in the Ivy League in points and is also tied for sixth in the conference in goals.
FRESHMEN STEPPING UP
Four freshman have registered points so far on the season with Hasfa Moinuddin leading the way with eight on three goals and five assists to rank fourth on the team in scoring. Moinuddin scored her first points in an 11-10 win at Bryant on March 9, recording two goals and two assists. Zoe Verni has also contributed significantly with five points (4G, 1A). Verni also had a solid game against Bryant, scoring two goals. Grace Plassche and Sophie MacFarlane round out the rookie scoring with one goal apiece.
BEARS SECOND IN IVY LEAGUE IN GOALS AGAINST AVERAGE
Brown is second in the conference in goals against average at 6.17. Only Cornell, who the Bears play this Saturday (March 26), has an average under seven (6.00), and rank first. Senior Victoria Hollan has started all seven games in net and has put together a 6.20 GAA.
HOME SWEET HOME
The Bears are 3-1 at home this season, having defeated Iona (13-11, Feb. 20), CCSU (8-2, Feb. 24) and Colgate (9-5, Mar. 13). The squad is averaging 8.25 goals per game while surrendering just 5.75 per game. In Brown's three wins, the team averages 10 goals per game.
BROWN CAPTURES SEVENTH-STRAIGHT OCEAN STATE CUP AT BRYANT
The Bears defeated Bryant, 11-10, in the Seventh Annual Ocean State Cup on Wednesday night at the Bryant Track and Turf Complex. With the win, the Bears move to 7-0 all-time against the Bulldogs. Senior Lauren Toy led the team in scoring with three goals and two assists while freshman Hafsa Moinuddin registered her first collegiate points on two goals and two assists. Senior Victoria Holland tallied five saves.

The Bears will begin a five game road-stretch, consisting of three non-conference opponents and two Ivy League foes. Brown will start the stretch with a mid-week non-conference game at No. 5/6 Louisville on Wednesday, March 30 (7:00 p.m.), followed by another non-conference battle at Sacred Heart on Saturday April 2 (1:00 p.m.).
