NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Senior Lauren Toy (Kentfield, Calif.) recorded her third hat trick of the season, but it was Yale that came out on top in a 6-5 decision Saturday afternoon at Reese Stadium.
Brown (4-3, 0-2 Ivy League) struck first, jumping out to a 1-0 lead 2:36 into the game, on an unassisted goal from Toy. Toy has now scored in all seven games this year and has found the back of the net in 22 of the Bears' last 24 contests, dating back to the start of the 2015 season.
Yale (4-4, 1-1 Ivy League) went on to close out the half with five straight tallies - three from Tess McEvoy and one each from Lauren Wackerle and Kiwi Comisio - to lead 5-1 midway through.
After the break, sophomore Rose Mangiarotti (Locust Valley, N.Y.) buried a shot just 3:21into the frame. Toy followed with her second goal of the game less than two minutes later - this time off a setup from freshman Hafsa Moinuddin (Cheshire, Conn.) - before her third score of the afternoon made it 5-4 with 21:27 remaining.
McEvoy struck again for the Bulldogs, pushing it to 6-4, but Moinuddin responded with her second goal of the day to get Brown back within one (6-5). That was as close as it would get however, as Yale held on for the 6-5 win.
For the game, the Bulldogs held an 18-13 advantage in shots, including two off the post in the final 10 minutes of play.
Brown was whistled for 24 fouls compared to Yale's 15, however the Bulldogs' Hope Hanley was issued the lone yellow card of the game.
Senior Victoria Holland (Huntington, N.Y.) finished with four saves in the loss while her counterpart, Sydney Marks, stopped five shots at the other end of the field.
The Bears return to action next Saturday, when they host Cornell at 1 p.m.
