Women's Hockey Falls at No. 9/9 Robert Morris, 5-1

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by No. 9/9 Robert Morris, 5-1, to open the second half of the season at RMU Island Sports Center on Friday night. With the loss the Bears move to 3-11-0 overall while the Colonials improve to 13-1-5 and extend their unbeaten streak to 12 games.
Robert Morris took a quick lead just 1:03 into the contest with a score from Amanda Pantaleo. The Colonials doubled their lead at 5:58 with a power-play goal from Maeve Garve.
Later in the opening stanza with a Brown power play expiring, freshman Sena Hanson (New Brighton, Minn.) notched a tally when she put back a rebound to pull the Bears within one of the Colonials (2-1). The score was Hanson's first-career goal. Junior Samantha Swanstrom (Ham Lake, Minn.) registered the assist on the play.
The Colonials took a two-goal lead (3-1) just before the close of the first, at 18:53 from Brittany Howard.
The two teams were scoreless halfway through the second period until Howard scored her second goal of the game while on the power play to give RMU a 4-1 advantage at 14:09.
Robert Morris capped off its scoring in the third with breakaway goal by Howard (7:59) who completed the hat trick and scored the final three Colonial goals.
Senior Monica Elvin (Oakland, Calif.) concluded the game with 38 saves, including 15 in the second, while her counterpart Elijah Milne-Price recorded 19 stops. The 30+ save performance was Elvin's sixth of the season.
The Colonials took advantage of their power-play opportunities, going 2-for-7 while the Bears were unable to net a goal in eight chances. RMU also held the overall lead in shots at 43-20.
The Bears close out the series at No. 9/9 Robert Morris tomorrow (Dec. 31) at 2:00 p.m.
