
Men's Hockey Opens ECAC Play at RPI (Fri.), No. 20 Union (Sat.)

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's hockey team will open ECAC Hockey play this weekend when the Bears visit Rensselaer on Friday and No. 20 Union on Saturday. Both games will start at 7 PM. Links to live video and live stats will be available at www.brownbears.com.

Last Time Out
Brown opened up the season with the pair of losses to Holy Cross and No. 14 Providence College last weekend. After a 3-0 loss on the road to the Crusaders, the Bears fell at home to PC, 6-0, in the 31st annual Mayor's Cup. Rookie Gavin Nieto started both games in net, while senior Zack Pryzbek paced the Bears with six shots over the course of two games.
Scouting RPI
Rensselaer (1-5-1) dropped a pair of conference games to Union in a home-and-home series last weekend. Riley Bourbonnais scored a pair of goals in the second game against the Dutchmen and leads the Engineers with five goals this season. Evan Tironese leads the way with seven assists and 10 points. Chase Perry has played five of the seven games in net for a 0-4-1 record with a 3.75 GAA and a .898 save percentage. The Engineers are 6-of-42 on the power play, clocking in at 14.3 percent, and average 2.43 goals per game.
Brown vs. Rensselaer All-Time
Brown and Rensselaer have met 97 times, dating back to a 5-0 Brown win during the 1951-52 season. The Engineers currently lead the all-time series, 62-25-9. Brown went 1-0-1 against RPI in the 2015-16 regular season and then dropped two straight games to the Engineers in the first round of the ECAC Tournament.
Scouting Union
No. 20 Union (6-2-1) dropped a non-conference midweek game at Holy Cross on Tuesday, 6-4, to snap a four-game winning streak. The Dutchmen swept a home-and-home series against RPI to open conference play last weekend. Mike Vecchione was named the ECAC Player of the Month for October after scoring 10 goals with six assists for 16 points in eight games. Vecchione is the active career leader in the NCAA with 130 points (52-78-130). Alex Sakellaropoulos and Jake Kupsky have split time in net, playing five and four games, respectively. Sakellaropoulos is 5-0-0 with a 2.39 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage. As a team, Union is ranked 15th in the nation with 3.758 goals scored per game.
Brown vs. Union All-Time
Saturday's game will mark the 51st meeting between Brown and Union, dating back to a 3-2 Union victory on December 30, 1989. The Bears hold a 23-16-12 series advantage after going 1-0-1 against the Dutchmen last season.
