
Women's Hockey Competes in First Road Match-Ups, at Cornell (Fri.) and at No. 5 Colgate (Sat.)

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After opening the 2016-17 season with seven-consecutive home games, the Brown women's hockey team will play in its first road contests of the year when the Bears travel to Cornell on Friday, Nov. 11 and No. 5 Colgate on Saturday, Nov. 12. Friday's puck drop will be at 6:00 p.m. while Saturday's game will begin at 3:00 p.m.

SCOUTING THE BIG RED
The Big Red enter the weekend with a 3-2-0 overall record and a 1-2-0 mark in the ECAC and is receiving votes in the USCHO.com Poll this week. Cornell opened the season with two-straight wins over Mercyhurst (3-1 on Oct. 21, 2-1 on Oct. 22). The Big Red then fell at RPI (1-0, Oct. 28) before picking up a 3-1 win at Union (Oct. 29). Last weekend, Cornell played at then No. 6 Colgate and were defeated, 2-1. Kristin O'Neill leads the team in points (5) and goals (4). Hanna Bunton carries the squad's assist lead with three on the year. Paula Voorheis and Marlene Boissonnault have split time in goal, with Voorheis making two starts and posting a .944 save percentage and a 1.35 goals-against average, and Boissonnault with two starts and a .943 save percentage and 1.00 GAA. The Big Red are 2-0-0 this season when playing at Lynah Rink and are outshooting their opponents in their five games by over 10 shots (33.2-21.4).
SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
Colgate enters the weekend unbeaten with a 10-0-1 record and a 3-0-0 mark in conference play while being ranked No. 5 in the USCHO.com Poll. The Raiders' lone tie on the season came against Syracuse on Oct. 22 in a 2-2 overtime tie. Last weekend, Colgate swept RIT, 6-2 in the first game on Friday, Nov. 4 (at RIT), and 4-1 in the second game on Saturday, Nov. 5 (at Colgate). Jessie Eldridge leads the team in scoring with 19 points, on five goals and a team-best 14 assists. Three other Raiders have five goals on the season in Annika Zalewski, Shae Labbe and Bailey Larson. Julia Vandyk has seen most of the team's action in net, with nine starts and an 8-0-1 record. She has put together a .952 save percentage, a 1.11 goals-against average and two shutouts. Liz Auby has appeared in two games, going 2-0-0 with a .848 save percentage and a 2.51 GAA. At home this season, Colgate is 6-0-1. Like Cornell, the Raiders are outshooting their opponents by 10 or more shots, with Colgate posting a 14 shot differential (36.0-22.0).
BROWN TALKING POINTS
The Bears are led in scoring by freshman Alley Rempe who has three goals and a team-high five assists for eight points. The newcomer was named ECAC Rookie of the Week in the team's first weekend of play (Oct. 26). Junior assistant captain Sam Donovan leads the team in goals with five, and has one assist for six points, good for second on the team in overall points. Donovan registered her second-career hat trick against Sacred Heart on Oct. 22 in a 7-0 win. Senior Monica Elvin leads the team in games started in net, and has team-highs in goals-against average (2.86), save percentage (.908) and wins (2). When scoring first in a contest, the Bears are a perfect 3-0-0 this season.
LAST SEASON VS. CORNELL
Last season Brown went 0-1-1 against Cornell. The teams skated to a 2-2 overtime tie in the first meeting at Lynha Rink on Jan. 16. The tie for the Bears snapped Cornell's streak of 17-straight wins against Brown. The second meeting saw the Big Red skate to a 4-2 victory at Meehan Auditorium on Feb. 12.
LAST SEASON VS. COLGATE
Colgate captured last year's series 2-0-0. The Raiders picked up a 6-2 win on their home ice on Jan. 15. In the second game, with Colgate ranked No. 10 in both polls, the Raider edged the Bears 3-2 at Meehan Auditorium on Feb. 13. After trailing 2-0, Brown registered its first goal in the second period and then added one after a Colgate score to pull within one 3-2. Neither team scored in the third period as Colgate captured the win. The Bears outshot the Raiders in the last two periods, 12-11 and 9-7, respectively.

HOMECOMING
Brown's first-year assistant coach, Katelyn Parker, was a four-year member of the Colgate women's hockey team and graduated in the spring of 2016. With the Raiders, she served as the team's captain for the past two seasons and played in 141 games over her career, which is the most in program history. Parker was a four-time recipient of the Sportsmanship Award, given to the person that represents the true meaning of "team" (voted by teammates and coaches).
LAST TIME OUT
The Bears were defeated by UConn, 3-1, in a non-conference game on Tuesday night at Meehan Auditorium. Junior Cynthia Kyin recorded the Bears' goal in the third period to knot the contest, 1-1, but the Huskies later added a power-play goal and an empty net tally to seal the win. Junior Julianne Landry recorded a season-high 36 saves, including 13 in the second period.
NEXT UP
The Bears return home to Meehan Auditorium to host two top-10 teams, in No. 7 Clarkson on Friday, Nov. 18 and No. 4 St. Lawrence on Saturday, Nov. 19. Friday's game will start at 6:00 p.m. while Saturday's puck drop will be at 3:00 p.m.
