PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Krysten Mayers scored three goals for Cornell as the Brown field hockey team fell to the Big Red, 6-1, in Friday afternoon's Ivy League matchup at Goldberger Family Field.

Cornell improved to 7-7 overall and 2-3 in the Ivy League, while Brown dropped to 6-7 on the season and 2-3 in league play.

Cornell came up with the only two shots during the opening 15 minutes of action, but after Katie Carlson's shot went just wide of the cage, Katie Hammaker (Ephrata, Pa.) turned away the other bid to keep the game scoreless.

Jaclyn Torres (Andover, Mass.) followed with a pair of shots on target for the Bears over the next ten minutes, only to be denied by Maddie Henry both times.

Cornell opened up the scoring at 30:20 when Katy Weeks tipped in a shot from Sam McILwrick after a penalty corner. The Big Red tacked on another goal at 32:42 as Mayers moved past a defender and flipped a shot over Hammaker for the two-goal advantage at halftime.

The two teams registered four shots apiece in the opening 35 minutes.

The Big Red added three more goals during the first four minutes of the second half. After Mayers and Mady Conklin scored back-to-back goals, Mayers added another tally at 38:33 on a shot in front of the cage. From there, McILwrick took advantage of a series of passing sequences inside the arc with a goal at 40:14 for the six-goal lead.

The Bears got on the board in the final minute when Katarina Angus (West Vancouver, British Columbia) scored her third tally of the season off a penalty corner. Allee Ayles (Westwood, Mass.) and Gina Openshaw (Annapolis, Md.) earned assists on the play.

Hammaker made two saves for the Bears, while Henry recorded four saves on the other end in the win.

The Bears next travel to Holy Cross for a non-conference game on Sunday, Oct. 23 at Hart Turf Field. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on Campus Insiders.
