PRINCETON, N.J. – Brown University women's soccer sophomore Celia Story has earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors after scoring the game-winning goal in Brown's 2-1 win at defending Ivy champion Princeton on Saturday, the Ivy League announced on Monday.
A native of Bainbridge Island, Wash., Story knocked home a rebound in the 88th minute as the Bears snapped a nine-game Ivy unbeaten streak for the host Tigers, coming up with their first win at Princeton – a team receiving votes in the NSCAA national poll and ranked No. 1 in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Rankings – since 2006.
Story provided the heroics for the Bears at the 87:12 mark for her fifth career goal, second goal of the season, and second career game winner. The Bears won for the first time at Roberts Stadium since its opening in 2008.
Story garnered Ivy League Player of the Week honors for the second time in her career. She also took home the award on Oct. 26, 2015 after scoring two goals in Brown's 3-2 double overtime win at Cornell in 2015.
Brown returns to play at Holy Cross tomorrow, Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. for its final non-conference contest of the season.
Video of all Brown women's soccer home contests and all Ivy League games, home and away, will be broadcast live on ILDN.TV/BROWN.
